Fire Destroys Bridgeport Garage

A detached garage at 319 East Main Street was badly damaged by fire shortly after 6:30 Friday evening. The garage was fully involved and had threatened the building to the left of it but firefighters quickly put out the blaze. Assistant Fire Chief Richard Thode told us that initially they were told there was a homeless man living in there. They gained entry to find the garage empty of any occupants. "There was a lot of rubbish in the building so there was a lot to burn " said Thode. The fire marshal was called to the scene and will investigate the cause of the fire.

Car Accidents Begin Memorial Day Weekend

Traffic accident were quick to start off Memorial Day Weekend throughout the are Friday afternoon.  This accident at Black Rock Turnpike at Jennings Road around 5 pm was not as bad as first thought with a child in the back seat of the van.  "Fortunately the child was belted in the backseat of the van which is the safest place for the child to be Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Tracy told us.

Upstate NY Motorcyclist Loses License For Speeding At 170mph On Thruway

A Saratoga County man who hit 170 mph while driving on the state Thruway will have no driver's license for at least 90 days after pleading guilty Wednesday, but warned he'd do it again, according to a prosecutor.  Along the Thruway, troopers clocked his speed at 150 mph and 170 mph before the motorcyclist stopped for gas in New Paltz.  Hearst Newspapers has the full story here.....

FBI, State Police Raid Bridgeport Condo

Rollover on Marion Street Bridgeport

A man was injured when man hit a parked sport utility vehicle and went airborne landing on its roof.  The accident happened on Marion Street and the man was transported around the corner to St. Vincent's Hospital.  Robin Curry who was moving into her apartment across the street witnessed the accident while unloading her moving truck.  Robin told us the driver wound up on the passenger's side of the car and was able to get himself out of the car.  She and others told the man not to move.  He was complaining of neck and head injuries, but" he was able to walk away, and he wore a shirt that said lucky" Curry said!

Firefighters Extinguish School Bus Fire in Fairfield

Just after 3:30pm Wednesday afternoon firefighters responded to a school bus fire on Verna Hill and Greenfield Hill Road.  When firefighters arrived they found the rear of the bus on fire where the engine is mounted.  There were about 20 students on board and the bus driver was able to evacuate the students with no problem.  Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola told us the driver went back to investigate the cause of the fire and was overcome with smoke.  He is being treated for smoke inhalation.  No children were exposed any smoke or any or any hazards of combustion.  Gomola said there appeared to be fuel oil or diesel on the roadway and they are investigating if this was a…

Newton Wins Stunning Endorsement For State Senate

Former State Senator Ernie Newton Monday night continued his comeback from a federal corruption conviction seven years ago to claim the Democratic endorsement for the State Senate seat he was forced to relinquish. He won the endorsement for Connecticut’s 23rd State Senate District over incumbent Ed Gomes and State Rep.
