Just before 3am a police officer on routine patrol spotted two houses on fire on Orchard Street. The fire appears to have started in a vacant building (the yellow house) and then jumped to the house next door which was occupied. Assistant Fire Chief Ismael Pomales told us they got ahead of the fire and did not let it get ahead of them. The fire appears to have started in the back left corner of the yellow house and then spread through out the house and to the house next door. The Red Cross was originally called to the scene but soon cancelled. No firefighters or civilians were injured in the blaze and fire officials have begun their investigation into the cause.
