11:14am–#Fairfield CT–Resident on Melville Avenue called police that a heavy set 6’2″ man came to her door in what appeared to be a gas company uniform asking to check for corroded pipes.  The woman refused and called police because she did not call or have prior notification for the inspection, nor did she see any gas company vehicles in the area.  Police are on the way.  ALWAYS as for identification before letting anyone in your home claiming to work for a utility you did not call for.  UPDATE–Officer sent to the scene says there are stickers on many doors from the gas company.  Police confirmed with the gas company that they ARE working in the area checking indoor pipes.  When in doubt always ask for identification or call the police.
