Woman dies in fiery I-95 crash

FAIRFIELD, CT, March 30, 2014: On Sunday morning at approximately 06:29 the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident on I-95 northbound by Exit 22 near the rest area. Fairfield Fire Department Engine 1, Ladder 1, Engine 2, Ladder 2, and Car 3 responded. Company 1 and Car 3 arrived on scene at approximately 06:34 and reported a very serious multi-vehicle accident, a car was under a trailer truck, the car was on fire, and one occupant was entrapped in the vehicle. Assistant Chief Schuyler Sherwood assumed command of the incident. Engine 1 immediately controlled the fire. Extrication was initiated utilizing multiple hydraulic rescue tools. Stratford News: Minor Fire On Minor Avenue

1:34pm--#Stratford CT-- It was a busy afternoon for first responders in Stratford.  First an oil truck rolled over at Broadbridge Avenue and Second Hill Lane causing a hazmat situation.  Mutual aid from area towns were called to back fill the emptied fire station attending to the hazamat. A short time later firefighters were called to Minor Avenue for a garage fire, the garage is attached to the home.  The fire was minor and the homeowner had the fire pretty much out when  firefighters arrived.  Firefighters checked for extensions.  The radio was busy with procedure protocol if this was a larger fire that would have required more assistance from surrounding towns.  Fortunately it was not needed.
