Westport News: Check Theft From Mailbox
On 09/11/2018, a Tierney Lane resident reported a theft of mail from her mailbox. She was alerted to the theft after receiving a call from Patriot Bank advising two males attempted to cash one of her checks in the amount of $450. The check was made out to "Jermaine Smalls" and the victim’s signature had been forged. The check was cancelled by the bank because of the unrecognizable signature, resulting in no financial loss to the victim. It was one of 7 checks stolen from the victim and fraudulently deposited into various accounts.
