The Bridgeport Bluefish and All Kids Dental held a joint press conference at All Kids Dental on Wednesday, February 24 at 3:30 pm to announce their “Kids Run the Ballpark” Essay Competition. Nine children between the ages of 10-13 will be selected to shadow and assist a Bluefish employee on Saturday, April 30, when the Bluefish take on the New Britain Bees at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. This will be a one- of-a-kind opportunity for young kids to see what it takes to run a baseball team. I had a viewer send in this photo upset that the imagery of a clinched fist is supportive of what they saw at the Super Bowl Black Power by Beyonce and the "negative imagery of the past". The viewer felt the image is too negative for elementary school children and "sends the wrong message to the young minds". What do you think?
HARTFORD, CT - Today, Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) joined advocates in support of House Bill 5237: An Act Concerning Fair Chance Employment. The bill is a set of hiring policies for private employers, designed to ensure that applicants with criminal records are evaluated on the merits of their qualifications, not on their criminal records. “We have too many hard-working people trying to find jobs that are being disqualified,” said Sen. Gomes. “We need to give everyone that is looking for a job a fair shot. I will continue to fight for an employment system that is fair to all our communities.” The bill would incorporate “ban the box” policies, which remove the criminal history question from job applications…
4:49pm--UPDATE: Police report that the cars have been removed and traffic is flowing on North Avenue once more. 3:49pm--#Bridgeport CT--Two people were seriously injured in the green Subaru after being rear ended by a silver SUV. Witnesses told me they thought the driver of the silver SUV either was intoxicated or had a medical condition, they said the driver was swerving prior to hitting the green Subaru at the interseciton of North Avenue and Dewy/Briarwood Avenue. The silver SUV continued south on North Avenue near the Fairfield town line and came to a stop after hitting a tree in the median.
