Westport Domestic Violence Task Force Concludes Successful Supply Drive

#Westport, CT - From July 16 th through August 16 th , the Westport Domestic Violence Task Force (WDVTF) collected supplies for the two Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) safe houses that serve residents in our area. The WDVTF sought donations of new leggings and t- shirts, bed linens, backpacks and school supplies, and gently used luggage. Collection bins were located in the lobbies of the Westport Police, Fire and Human Services Departments as well as the Westport Weston YMCA and Unitarian Church.   “The generosity of our community never ceases to amaze us. Westport News: Fraudulent Check

#Westport CT--On 08/07/2018 at approximately 4:00pm, officers were dispatched to People’s Bank on a report of a male attempting to make a fraudulent transaction. Upon arrival, the suspect was located at the counter attempting to cash a forged check using fraudulent identification. The teller observed the check provided had an incorrect routing number. When asked for additional identification, the suspect produced a forged U.S. passport and a fraudulent Discover card. The name on each item belonged to an actual bank customer however, the suspect was unable to verify the personal information of the account holder. Westport News: Facebook Friend Request Nets Arrest

#Westport CT--On 08/06/2018, the victim came to police headquarters to report a violation of a protective order. Earlier in the day, the victim received a Facebook “friend request” from Karen Backus, 55, of Trumbull, CT. An active Order of Protection was in effect at the time of the request, which prohibited Backus from contacting the victim in any manner. An arrest warrant application for Backus was submitted and later approved. On 08/07/2018, Backus turned herself in at police headquarters on the active warrant. Westport News: Senior Robbery

#Westport CT--On 08/03/2018 at approximately 11:45pm, officers were dispatched to a residence on a report of a disturbance. Officers learned the suspect, who is not allowed inside the residence, arrived and demanded $100 payment from the elderly victim for outdoor electrical work. The victim refused and a struggle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect, Todd Seligson, removed the wallet from the victim’s rear pocket by force and took $1,400 from it before leaving the residence. Officers located Seligson at his residence. He was taken into custody and charged with 53a-136 Robbery 3 rd , 53a-125 Larceny 4 th , 53a-182 Disorderly Conduct and 53a-107 Criminal Trespass. Westport News: Cash Thefts From Car Dealership

#Westport CT--On 07/10/2018, investigators responded to Honda of Westport on a report of a larceny. The business reported two separate larcenies of cash. On 06/28/2018, a customer paid $6,000 as a deposit towards the purchase of a vehicle. On 07/09/2018, another customer paid a cash deposit of $9,900 towards the purchase of a new vehicle. Investigators learned employee Ivo Ivanov handled the cash during both transactions, but the money was never received by management. An arrest warrant application was submitted for Ivanov and later approved. On 08/03/2018, Ivanov turned himself in at police headquarters on the active arrest warrant. Westport News: Elvis Has Left His Warrants

#Westport CT--On 08/17/18 at approximately 10:00 am, an officer initiated a motor vehicle stop on the Sherwood Island Connector. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Elvis Paches, 33, of Bridgeport, CT. During the stop, officers learned Paches had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Paches was taken into custody and transported to headquarters where he was charged with 53a-173 Failure to Appear 2 nd and released after posting $500 court set bond. #Westport CT-- How about some like to home our Deputy Chief along with (18) Connecticut firefighters. Returning last evening, Deputy Chief Kronick and members of the CT Wildfire Crew traveled out to Colorado at the end of July to help battle the blazing wildfires that have been crippling the region. The CT Interstate Fire Crew was deployed on the Buttermilk and Green Mountain Fires where thousands of acres were charred by the burning blazes. The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection maintains a roster of staff and personnel from local fire departments who are certified to fight wildfires, which in turn allows Connecticut to participate in a reciprocal aid program operated by the U.S. Forest Service. Westport, CT - The Department of Public Works has scheduled the annual Roadway Crack Seal Program to commence on Monday, August 13. The work will occur daily for one week and perform maintenance on approximately 6 miles of various roadways throughout Town. Traffic will not be detoured, but alternating one way traffic flow will be used to route traffic around this continually moving work zone. (Westport, CT) -The Connecticut Department of Transportation intends to perform construction to repair the deficiencies of the Bridge Street William Cribari Bridge from Monday, August 6th through Friday, September 14th. The closure of the bridge and detour will commence Monday through Thursday evenings from 8:00pm until 5:00 AM and will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Marine traffic requiring bridge openings may be limited during the work periods.
