Stratford News: Oil Truck Rollover

1:34pm–#Stratford CT–An oil truck from Derby rolled his oil truck on Broadbridge Avenue at the Second Hill Avenue intersection.  This was a single vehicle accident and it appeared the truck hit the curb just at the intersection possibly causing the truck to roll.  Upon impact with the road a stress crack appeared on one of the welds on the truck.  About 100 gallons of oil did go down the drain and the Fairfield Hazardous Waste Team was called in.  Approximately 2,000 gallons of oil needs to be drained from the truck before they attempt to upright the truck.  Expect the area to be closed at least until 5pm if not later.

Police Officer Fires on Dog After Being Attacked

#Bridgeport, CT – March 28, 2014 – A 48-year-old city woman faces charges in connection with an incident in which her dog attacked a police officer.

Police had been assigned to pay extra attention to the area of East Main Street after several commercial and street robberies.

Officer Damien Csech saw two occupants of a vehicle acting suspiciously. He observed several motor vehicle violations and the pick-up circling the block. The vehicle pulled into a parking lot in the 1000 block of East Main Street and Csech pulled into the lot as well.

As he approached the truck to speak with the occupants, the female exited the passenger side and attempted to walk away. She was asked to get back into the vehicle. At that time, she was verbally uncooperative and then opened the door, intentionally allowing a pit bull to jump out of the vehicle. The dog attacked Csech, who attempted to push off the dog and fired one shot from his service pistol.

The dog was taken by Bridgeport Animal Control.

The suspect, Pandora McNeill, of Bridgeport, was charged with assault on a police officer, criminal attempt at second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and interfering with police. Her bond was set at $50,000.

The officer was treated at Saint Vincent’s Medical Center for injuries. The dog was euthanized this morning due to its injuries.

GOV. MALLOY: FUNDS APPROVED FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENTS AT STATE PARKS THROUGHOUT CONNECTICUT

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that $5.76 million to fund road improvements and resurfacing in Connecticut state parks was approved at Friday’s meeting of the state Bond Commission.

“Connecticut’s state parks and forests are a destination to millions of residents and tourists each year, and roadways in many locations are showing the signs of all of this use,” said Governor Malloy.  “In a year when we are celebrating the centennial of our state park system, it is especially important to make the investments needed to ensure that people can travel safely and conveniently into and around our parks. These projects will also create much needed construction work for Connecticut workers.”

Most projects will begin as soon as the weather permits and continue throughout the spring and early summer.  Major projects include:

  • East Lyme – Resurfacing the approach road to the beach at Rocky Neck State Park
  • Litchfield – Milling and resurfacing the road leading to the mansion at Topsmead State Forest
  • New Fairfield – Resurfacing the access road to Squantz Pond State Park, as well as incorporating a new drainage system during the resurfacing
  • New Fairfield – Improving the parking area at the state boat launch at Squantz Pond State Park on Candlewood Lake
  • Derby – Resurfacing the parking lot for the Kellogg Environmental Education Center

“These bond funds are the latest example of an extraordinary commitment Governor Malloy and the General Assembly have demonstrated toward maintaining and improving the infrastructure in our state parks and forests,” said DEEP Commissioner Rob Klee.  “These and other previous funds that have been allocated allow us to make improvements that will ensure our parks remain first-class attractions for many years to come.”
