Fairfield, Connecticut (March 6, 2015). Greater Fairfield County Softball Umpire Association (GFCSUA) announces it membership meeting on March 8, 2015 at St. Joseph High School Auditorium at 9:15am and new membership umpire classes, which started on March 4, 2015 and continues for four successive Wednesdays at Fairfield Ludlowe High School at 6:00pm.
Those interested in umpiring high school athletic softball competitions in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference and South West Conference are required to attend rules and mechanics training classes that will be held March 11, 17, 25 and April 1 at 6:00pm. In addition, attendance at on-field training shall be required and scheduled. All new members are required to submit to and pass a Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference background check and attend GFCSUA’s sensitivity training course before taking the field for officiating purposes.
GFCSUA is also pleased to announce that one of its founding members, Vice President and Commissioner, Albert Vazquez, was inducted into the Connecticut Scholastic and Collegiate Softball Hall of Fame. Vazquez has umpired softball athletic competitions of all levels: youth; high school; collegiate; and professional. The induction ceremony was held March 1, 2015 at the Aqua Turf Club, Plantsville, Connecticut. Vazquez joined the 2015 Class of inductees, which included Melanie Kasack Ivey, Bethel High School, and Patti Fernandes, Stratford High School, as high school players, Amber Radomski, American International College, as a college player, and Theresa Napolitano, Lauralton Hall, as a high school coach. “We are very honored to have one of our members selected for induction,” states Rich Calitro, President, GFCSUA. “Al exemplifies that which we all strive to achieve: to be the very best; and to serve with honor, integrity, and dignity. All of which, is for the love of the game of softball.” Vazquez was presented for induction by Brian Marks, GFCSU’s Secretary and Rules Interpreter.
