UPDATE & Corrections: As with ALL breaking news it is subject to change. 1. The train involved was Amtrak Regional 88 which runs from Norfolk, Virginia to Boston.
2. PD received the first 911 call at 5:35 PM.
3. The New York-bound track (track 3) was opened at 6:07 PM, but had a “restricted speed” speed restriction in place until 8:43 PM (restricted speed means to proceed at a speed that the engineer can stop the train in half the line of their sight but not greater than 15 MPH)

 

5:35pm–#Fairfield CT–A 31 year old woman was on the north side platform at the Fairfield train station downtown Fairfield, she realized she need to be on the south side to catch her train.  Others on the platform tried explaining to her how to get to the stairway the goes over the tracks.  Witnesses say she was panicked that she was going to miss her train and that she disregarded their instruction and went to cross the tracks.  When she got to the other side of the tracks she could not figure how to scale up to the platform.  At that time an Amtrak train approached and was blowing the train’s horn.  She dove under the platform but she may have panicked and was hit by the train and killed.  In the picture at the bottom of the frame you will see a traffic cone.  That is where she was struck.  You can see a yellow tarp in the middle of the frame that covered her body (near the man in the orange vest), and you can see the distance it took for the train come to a stop.  The Amtrak train was a Boston to Washington D.C. train.  The tracks were closed until around 6pm.  The name of the woman has not been released until notification to her family.

17:35-#Fairfield CT-Una mujer de 31 años estaba en la plataforma lado norte en el Fairfield centro de la estación de tren de Fairfield, se dio cuenta que tiene que ser en el lado sur para coger su tren. Otros en la plataforma intentaron explicarle como llegar a la escalera del Balón por encima de las vías. Los testigos dicen que fue presa del pánico que ella se iba a perder su tren y que ella ignoró su instrucción y fue a cruzar las vías. Cuando llegó al otro lado de las vías que ella no podía entender cómo escalar hasta la plataforma. En ese momento un tren de Amtrak se acercó y estaba soplando el cuerno del tren. 3:50pm–#Bridgeport CT–Police are looking for a black SUV, possibly a Saturn with no front plate in connection with a road rage incident on Madison Avenue.  The SUV was last seen fleeing down Pequonnock Street.

1:00pm–#cttraffic–#Fairfield CT–An ambulance had a tire blowout on I-95 northbound between exits 24 and 25.  The patient in that ambulance had to be transported into another ambulance then have the tire changed.  That was the delay you may have seen.  And now you know!

1:30pm–#Bridgeport CT–Firefighters called to 2135 Old Town Road for a structure fire.  On arrival the find smoke on the third floor, no updates other than they have requested the fire marshal to the scene.

11:47pm–#Bridgeport CT–Police are investigating a home invasion at 42 Ashley Street off Noble Avenue.  Two black males both with firearms forced their way into the home and ransacked the home.  There were then chased by four other people.    There is also a person shot in the hand on Dupont Place that may be related.  Police are investigating.  Remember this is breaking news as it is unfolding and the information can change.
