#HARTFORD, CT – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH) has distributed approximately 9,200 overdose prevention kits since 2014 through the agency’s overdose prevention, education, and naloxone access campaign, known as Overdose Prevention Education and Naloxone (OPEN) Access CT.
The Governor made the announcement on International Overdose Awareness Day, a global event held each year on August 31 to raise awareness of drug overdoses and reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths. International Overdose Awareness Day also acknowledges the grief endured by the families and friends of individuals who have died or experienced permanent injury as a result of a drug overdose.
“Families across the nation, from small towns to big cities, have been impacted by addiction. We must do everything we can to save lives. Overdoses are preventable, and we at the state level are acting every way we can,” Governor Malloy said. “We continue to focus on informing opioid prescribing practices, increasing the use of naloxone, and using medication-assisted treatment to move people into healthy, addiction-free lifestyles. This is an issue that affects many families, and we must continue to act.”

1:19pm–#cttraffic–#Darien Connecticut–I-95 southbound near exit 13 had the highway shutdown and traffic diverted during a tanker truck fire. Radio reports say the roadway will be reopened but may be shut down again when the tow truck arrives.
1:20pm–#Bridgeport Connecticut– Smoke on the third floor at 198 French Street turns out to be food burning on the stove, no fire.

On 08/28/16 at approximately 4:45 PM, Westport PD Officers were alerted to an ongoing domestic dispute in a vehicle in the rear parking lot of the police station. Witnesses provided statements indicating Stephen Shulman was striking the female passenger. It was also learned that a 6-week old infant was in the vehicle as well during the assault. Subsequent to the arrest of Shulman, the vehicle he was operating was searched. Marijuana and Butane Honey Oil or “DAB” along with packaging materials, scales, and other paraphernalia associated with the manufacture and sale of “DAB” were located and seized.

12:00pm–#cttraffic–#Fairfield Connecticut– An officer attempted to pull over a car with mis-used plates, more than likely stolen. The car refused to stop and got on I-95 northbound. Police told me the pursuit continued because it was slow to mid range speed an the operator even used their directional signal when making turns and changing lanes along the way. The pursuit ended between exits 35 and 36. Additional units from other towns as well as state police joined the pursuit. Two are in custody, one of the suspects has an extensive criminal background according to radio reports.

#Bridgeport CT–#Hartford – Representative Christopher Rosario (D-Bridgeport), in response to a recent disturbing increase in violent crime in Bridgeport, has reached out to Governor Malloy for assistance from the Connecticut State Police to work in concert with the Bridgeport Police Department to address the issue.
“As State Representative for the 128th District in Bridgeport, I have become quite concerned about the recent and rapid increase in gun violence plaguing our city and impacting the safety of our community,” Rep. Rosario said. “Residents must see we are making every effort to quell the violence with a clearly present law enforcement response to this quality of life issue in the city.”
Rosario issued a formal request today and will work with the Governor and law enforcement on putting a course of action together that will have an impact on reducing the violence.
Rep. Rosario represents the 128th Assembly District and serves on the Appropriations, Energy and Technology and Transportation Committees. He also serves on the Transportation, Human Services and Judicial and Corrections Appropriations Subcommittees.
11:19pm–#Bridgeport Connecticut–A three car accident in front of the U-Haul on Boston Avenue. One driver is reported to be unconscious.
