Governor Renames Non-Essential Employees Level 2 Employees

HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today announced that he has signed an executive order modifying the terminology used to describe the designation levels of executive branch state employees during weather-related and other emergency situations.

Previously, when the state has experienced severe weather or other types of emergency situations, executive branch state employees have been referred to as “essential” or “nonessential” based on their respective job duties as required to address the needs of Connecticut’s residents in the face of urgent situations that can have an adverse effect on health and safety.

Under the order signed today, those employees who previously were designated as “essential” will now be referred to as “Level 1 employees.”  Those who had been designated as “nonessential” will now be referred to as “Level 2 employees.”

While it is not anticipated that there will be any early releases today, all executive branch state employees are advised to take note that the use of these new terms will go into effect immediately.

Bridgeport News: UI Scammer Or Electric Solicitor

#Bridgeport CT– A viewer just message me that there is someone in the upper Main Street area asking to see copies of her UI bill. She is afraid it is a scam. UI and police say if a person says they are from UI they will have identification on them.  You still do not have to let them in your home.  You can call UI offices to verify there are workers in the area.   More than likely it was a person trying to get her to switch to the electric supplier they represent, which is the reason they want to see the bill.  They want to show you how they can save you money.  Either way sadly you just never know.

Bridgeport News: Fire On Hanover Street

4:46pm–#Bridgeport CT– It is thought that homeless people allegedly trying to stay warm that started a fire in a boarded up, abandoned home at 181 Hanover Street. It took about a half hour for firefighters to extinguish the bulk of the fire. The fire marshal was called to investigate. There were no reported injuries.

Bridgeport News: Mayor Sets Selection Process For Police Chief

#Bridgeport CT – Mayor Joe Ganim announced today that planning has begun in preparation of the selection process for a Police Chief. An outside consultant has been hired to assist with arranging meetings with various stakeholders in our community who will have input on what they are looking for in a Police Chief. These meetings will include city staff, police department staff, elected officials, citizens, citizen groups and community organizations. The Executive Search Consultant Meetings with Civil Services, HR, and city officials, are planned to begin on Tuesday, March 20th. Meetings with elected officials, including state elected officials, council members, and community stakeholders will be scheduled in the near future. Qualities in a police chief that have been suggested or recommended in prior years include characteristics that represent strong management, leadership and law enforcement knowledge, the ability to execute effective Community Policing as well as some various personality traits. The Police Chief Executive Search Process will commence and the department will open the position of Police Chief to a nationwide search when the planning stages of the selection process have all been appropriately finalized. Mayor Ganim and the City of Bridgeport will invite all qualified candidates to apply for the position.

Bridgeport News: Jumper Snarls Traffic

7:50pm–#Bridgeport CT– A man threatening to jump off the Lindley Street overpass was talked down by police.   Lindley Street exit 4 southbound was closed and traffic on Route8/25 northbound was at a crawl.

Don’t worry, my wife took the picture,not me.  We were on our way back from her birthday dinner   Yea, I’m such a romantic.

 

 

Westport News: Threat To A Teacher

#Westport, CT– On February 27, 2018 at approximately 9:00am, the Westport Police Department was contacted by Staples High School officials and advised a juvenile male student was overheard making threats to shoot a teacher. The student who overheard this statement reported it to school officials that morning. Officers and detectives responded to Staples High School where the male student was already being interviewed by school administration. Based on the information learned by school administrators, it was confirmed the student did have thoughts of executing a mass shooting at the high school. The incident was further investigated by members of the Westport Police Department Detective and Youth Bureaus. An arrest warrant application was submitted for approval and later granted by a judge. Investigators also secured an Order to Detain for the subject. In the early morning hours of March 20, 2018, the juvenile suspect turned himself in at police headquarters on the outstanding arrest warrant. He was charged with 53a-62 Threatening 2 nd and transported to the Juvenile Detention Center in Bridgeport per the Order to Detain. The suspect was scheduled to appear in court later that day. Due to his age, the identity of the suspect will not be released.
