First Selectman Michael Tetreau presented to the boards of Selectmen and Finance Thursday a $272.6 million operational budget for Fiscal Year 2013 (FY2013). The proposed budget carries a 3.61 percent ($9.4 million) increase over the current budget and would, if approved as is, carry a .9 mill increase — or raise most residents’ taxes by 4 percent. 1:30am–Driver tries to hit a Bridgeport Police car on Barnum Avenue. After a brief foot pursuit the driver of the car crashed near Livingston Place (I don’t believe the police were involved in the crash). The three suspects flee into Beardsley Park. One in custody. Canine working the scene. At 2:11am police radios they lost the track of the other two suspects.
12:56am– Police pursuit starting in Bridgeport I-95 heading towards Fairfield. UPDATE–Pursuit ends after a brief foot pursuit near exit 20.
11:38pm–Bridgeport–Bridgeport–WRONG WAY DRIVER on Fairfield Ave. just crashed at Colorado Ave. Driver bailed after T-boning another car and injuring the occupants.
6:39pm–#Bridgeport–Classic! Car hits a hydrant and water shooting in the air at Fairfield Ave. and Jetland Ave.
5:18pm–Southport–Passerby calls fired department of heavy smoke coming from a Harbor Road home, says his teenage son thought he might of seen flames on the water side of the house. Fire department arrives and finds nothing. Fire department lost contact with the caller and could not get any further information.
12:01am–Bridgeport–Bridgeport PD detain two in a home invasion at PT Barnum Apartments Building 8 2nd floor. Caller said two black males with guns inside the apartment, locked himself and his 3 year old in the bathroom. Police had to force entry and nabbed two.
9:34pm–New Haven–A shooting took place at 80 Lilac Street. 2 black males are wanted for the shooting last seen running towards Newhall and Ivy. Condition of the victim is unknown.
8:40pm–Bridgeport–Police are investigating an assault possibly involving an off duty Stamford Police Officer at Tony’s Hunitington Inn at 437 Huntington Tpke. Responsible parties were no longer on scene when police arrived.
12:38pm–Stratford–Fire department on scene of a structure fire at 100 Ash Street, confirms heavy fire from the two and half story building.

Calls On Obama To Honor Slaves Who Built White House
A U.S. congressman is urging President Obama to recognize the work of enslaved African-Americans who helped build the White House. “Slaves helped dig the foundation for the White House,” Ackerman wrote in correspondence to the White House Thursday. “They quarried stone that would be used for the walls, dug up clay for thousands of bricks, cut timber, sawed lumber, and performed carpentry inside the White House. US Senate Bails Out Own Barbershop
The US Senate bailed out its own barbershop after it ran nearly $300,000 in the red last year—despite $27 cut-and-blow-drys, $105 highlight jobs, and 27,000 annual customers. Capitol’s four barbers and stylists made $22,000 to $30,000 last year with no benefits, manager Lynn Dang said. At the Senate barbershop, formally called Senate Hair Care Services, the top four barbers and stylists made more than twice that — $54,761; $70,349; $73,658; and $81,641 — plus they have a generous 401(k) plan, health care and paid vacation. In all, the government contributed $230,000 in benefits for the barbershop, said Eve Goldsher, a spokeswoman for the Senate Appropriations Committee. Read full story…….
Apple Accused Of Exploiting Whitney’s Death By Increasing iTunes Costs
The American multinational corporation, Apple, stands accused of hiking up the prices of their Whitney Houston iTunes collections right on the heels of her untimely death, according to the UK’s Digital Spy. Apple’s price increases took place in the space of just 30 minutes after Houston’s death, but further reports indicate that label Sony Music is actually responsible for the hike. Read full story……
