Laundromat Fire

Firefighters were called to A C Washing Well at 133 North Main Street around 7:30 p.m. following reports of a dryer fire that may have extended to other parts of the laundromat. Heavy smoke was reported in the building and in nearby businesses, including Domino’s, prompting mutual aid from surrounding fire departments.

Due to the impending snow storm, Mayor Tyszka has order a full parking ban for the City of Ansonia.

Beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday January 24, 2026 until 11:00 p.m. Monday January 26, 2026 no cars are allowed to park on city streets. Cars parked on the street during this time will be towed at the owner’s expense. During the storm, all city parking lots including Nolan Field and Board of Education lots will be open for resident parking. Vehicles parked in the school lots should be removed by Monday night as the roads are cleared.

Prospect Man Arrested on Child Pornography Charges After Two-Year Investigation

On January 19, 2026, Alexander Beardsley, age 33, of Prospect was arrested by warrant for possession of child pornography. The investigation into Beardsley began in 2024 when he was a resident of Ansonia. During the course of the investigation search warrants were conducted where computers, phones and various electronic storage devices were seized and examined. The examinations resulted in the discovery of over 100 images of child pornography. The investigation was led by Detective Mark Clifford with the assistance of the Shelton Police Department, Prospect Police Department and the State of Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Digital Forensic Unit.

Beardsley was charged with Possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material, he was held on a $75,000.00 bond to be arraigned on January 20, 2026 at Derby Superior Court.

All arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Ansonia PD Extinguishes 2nd Fire Today

Firefighters on scene on Hodge Avenue for an oven fire that was extinguished by police prior to their arrival. Ansonia Police extinguished a fire on North Main Street earlier this morning. Firefighters ensured the fire was completely out and ventilated the home which was filled with smoke.
