Westport Ulta Theft Case Ends in $50K Bond Arrest

Police say a months-old shoplifting case at Ulta Beauty in Westport has now resulted in an arrest after surveillance video helped identify a suspect. Store management reported the theft on November 3, after discovering the incident during a routine review of security footage from September 6.

According to investigators, two individuals entered the store together, with one intentionally creating a distraction while the second suspect, later identified as Peggy Inesti, allegedly removed multiple bottles of fragrance and testers from store shelves and placed them into a tote bag. Both suspects then exited the store without paying for the merchandise. The total loss was reported at $1,726.

Through information sharing with other law enforcement agencies investigating similar thefts in their jurisdictions, Inesti was developed as a suspect in this case. A warrant was issued for her arrest in connection with the investigation.

On November 24, Inesti turned herself in at police headquarters and was formally charged with Larceny Fourth Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Larceny Fourth Degree. Her bond was set at $50,000, which she posted prior to being released. She is scheduled to be arraigned at Stamford Superior Court on December 8.

Westport Police Department Arrests Two in Connection with Armed Robbery

(Westport, CT) – This afternoon the Westport Police Department arrested two individuals in connection with an armed robbery of an armored car driver that occurred in the parking lot of a Post Road East bank.

At approximately 12:33pm on Thursday, November 6, 2025, Westport Police received a 9-1-1 emergency call reporting an armed robbery that had occurred at the Wells Fargo Bank located at 422 Post Road East. Additional details were provided that two suspects dressed in all black clothing and masks had accosted an armored car driver after he had retrieved a cash deposit from inside the bank. The suspect vehicle had reportedly parked alongside the victim’s van, exiting and approaching as he returned from inside the bank. One of these two suspects allegedly pointed what was described by the victim as a revolver-style weapon at him, while the second took him to the ground to gain control of the bank bag. In the process of the struggle, the victim’s deposit bag, firearm, keys, phone, and a scanner were taken from him.

An eyewitness that had exited the bank observed what was happening, recognized it as a robbery attempt and began to intervene by shouting for help. This apparently panicked the two suspects who dropped the bank bag and victim’s phone, but made off with his firearm, scanner, and keys. The witness reported that the suspects drove at him in what he believed was an attempt to strike him before leaving the parking lot. A description of the individuals and their vehicle was provided to the responding officers.

Multiple units immediately began circling the location of the incident from various directions. The suspect vehicle was located by an officer and was observed to be traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Compo Road South, making a left turn on to Greens Farms Road. Attempts to signal the vehicle to stop were ignored and the suspects proceeded east on Greens Farms Road, south on Hillspoint Road to Compo Road South. Officers were briefly unable to maintain visual contact due to the excessive speeds and reckless maneuvering of the suspects.

As it approached the intersection with Greens Farms Road, officers were able to successfully deploy stop sticks striking the vehicle’s tires and slowing its pace. Multiple other units were then able to bring the vehicle to a controlled stop on Greens Farms Road just east of the Hales Road overpass where two suspects were quickly taken into custody, one while attempting to flee on foot and a second while still seated inside the car. An initial search of the vehicle yielded neither of the reported stolen items nor firearms.

Believing that these items had been discarded during the pursuit, all available Westport and mutual aid units began a systematic search of the suspects’ known path of travel utilizing several officers and evidence recovery canines. The handgun stolen from the victim was located on Hillspoint Road near the intersection with Hales Road. The stolen set of keys was recovered a short distance south of that item. The stolen scanner was recovered on Compo Road South near the Baron’s property. The reported weapon used during the commission of the robbery has not yet been recovered.

At this time the suspect’s weapon used in the commission of this crime has not been located but is believed to have been discarded in the Hillspoint/Compo Beach/Compo Road South area. This weapon was reported by one of the suspects to be a facsimile firearm, however that has not been definitively confirmed by the investigation. At the time of this writing continuing efforts are being made to locate and recover this evidence, but area residents are cautioned that it may eventually be located on private property. Officers will continue to maintain a heavy presence in these neighborhoods through the night and into the daylight hours in an effort to recover this piece of evidence. We ask that if you should encounter this item that you please do not attempt to handle it and contact the Westport Police Department immediately so that it can be properly and safely collected and removed.

As colder months approach, the department invites the community to help keep neighbors in need warm this winter. Chief Marsan noted, “This drive impacts hundreds of men, women, and children from some of the area’s most distressed neighborhoods. A coat may seem simple, but it’s essential for many children and adults in nearby communities.”

Donations of new or gently used (and clean) winter coats, hats, mittens/gloves, and snow suits will be accepted through November 30th at the following locations:

  • Westport Fire Headquarters: 515 Post Road East
  • Westport Senior Center: 21 Imperial Avenue
  • Westport Town Hall: 11 Myrtle Avenue
  • Coleytown Elementary School: 65 Easton Road
  • Long Lots Elementary School: 13 Hyde Lane
  • Kings Highway Elementary School: 125 Post Road West

The majority of coats will be delivered to Bridgeport Rescue Mission, while others will be set aside for the ABC House in Westport and other agencies in need, extending the reach of this community effort even further.

Lieutenant Rob Lenois, President of the Westport Uniformed Firefighters Charitable Foundation, highlighted the community’s vital role: “This drive allows us to give back and ease the burdens on local families. Last year, thanks to the generosity of this community, we distributed over 1,400 coats.”

Westport resident and volunteer Anna Rycenga added: “Please join the WFD and me this winter in supporting families in need. Many go without a warm coat, but together, we can make a meaningful difference by sharing the warmth—one coat at a time.”

Westport Police Department Arrests Four in Connection with Stolen Vehicle and Recovered Firearm

WESTPORT — On Tuesday, October 27, 2025, at about 8:52 p.m., Westport officers received license plate reader alerts indicating a reported stolen vehicle in the Saugatuck area. An officer located the vehicle traveling northbound on Saugatuck Avenue and, with a second officer’s assistance, conducted a felony high-risk stop near Riverside Avenue and Post Road West. The four occupants complied with commands and were removed from the vehicle without incident. A search of the passenger compartment uncovered a firearm on the rear floor below the driver’s seat.

Westport Police Department Offers Halloween Safety Reminders

(Westport, CT) As Halloween quickly approaches, the Westport Police Department wishes to take the opportunity to offer our residents and visitors some basic reminders intended to promote a safe experience for all.
We always ask that motorists drive with care and caution through our neighborhoods, but especially on Halloween when our streets are certain to be filled with trick-or-treaters. Slow down, don’t drive distracted, be mindful of pedestrians, use extra caution when exiting driveways and please drive sober. Drivers should be focused on the road ahead and prepared to react quickly to a variety of unanticipated situations.

Trick-or-treaters should walk safely and opt for costumes that do not limit their field of vision while also maximizing visibility to traffic. We strongly encourage carrying flashlights, wearing bright colors or reflectorized garments, and pre-planning a route through well-lit and familiar neighborhoods. Stick to sidewalks where they are available, walk against the flow of traffic where there are no sidewalks, use marked crosswalks, and walk, don’t run, through neighborhoods. Always assume that drivers do not see you and be especially cautious around cars that are backing up or turning. Traveling in large groups is encouraged to promote safety. Only visit houses where outside lights are illuminated. A darkened house is likely not prepared to receive trick-or-treaters.

Children should not eat any treats until they return home, when parents can take the time to properly inspect them. Check all treats for any signs of tampering and throw away anything that is not factory sealed or otherwise questionable looking. Never eat anything that is homemade. Anyone receiving items suspected of having been intentionally tampered with should report that to their local police department immediately.

While we encourage everyone to enjoy Halloween, we also warn that vandalism and acts of mischief that threaten safety or result in property damage will not be tolerated. With that said, parents are urged to please monitor their children’s activities not only on Halloween night, but also on Thursday, October 30, the traditional “Mischief Night.”

Rest assured that the men and women of the Westport Police Department will also be putting on our costumes this coming weekend, in the form of increased high visibility patrols. We wish all a safe and Happy Halloween!

Westport Police Department Advisory – MetroNorth Railroad Announces Saugatuck PedestrianBridge Closures

(Westport, CT) Notification was recently received from Metro North Railroad of their intention to periodically close the pedestrian bridge over the Saugatuck River. These closures are reported to be in connection with an improvement project that is slated to run from Monday, October 27, to Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Beginning on October 27, Metro North Railroad will begin a project intended to make critical safety repairs to the pedestrian bridge connecting the Westport (Saugatuck) Railroad Station to Ferry Lane East. This construction will require that the bridge be kept in a closed position and will require a deviation of all marine traffic.

This project will also necessitate periodic closures of the pedestrian walkway. Metro North anticipates having to close the bridge to foot traffic approximately four to six times during the one month anticipated duration of the project. These closures will take place from 11:00pm to 6:00am while work is on-going.

Commuters should be aware of these occasional closures during this period and are encouraged to seek alternate routes and/or other means of transportation to the Saugatuck Railroad Station.
