Teen Charged With Attempted Robbery and Assault

(Bridgeport, CT – March 10, 2014) – A 16-year-old city youth was arrested Saturday after a disturbance at a Park Avenue business.

Officer Kenneth Ruge responded to Asia Travel Metro PCS, 1681 Park Ave., at 2:22 p.m. and learned that an employee had seen a young man take something from a shelf and leave the store. The employee followed him outside and asked him what he took. The suspect and his friends pushed the victim around and fled on foot.

Then at 3:45 p.m., Officer Pasquale Speranza was passing the same location and saw a shirtless young man in the street trying to draw the employee into a fight as another youth stood by with a stick.

The employee told police that the shirtless teen was the same one who was in his store earlier. He and several other youth returned and tipped over shelves in the store, punched the victim and attempted to snatch a cell phone.

The juvenile was charged with attempted robbery, third-degree assault and criminal mischief.

GOV. MALLOY: UTC AGREEMENT IMPACTS JOBS THROUGHOUT THE STATE

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Dannel P. Malloy today released data

showcasing the impact that ratifying the United Technologies Corp. agreement will have on communities throughout the state.

 

“United Technologies is a company that has thousands of employees.  Their business not only impacts the people they directly employ, but also thousands of suppliers and other companies,” Governor Malloy said.  “This town-by-town breakdown shows just how many people will be impacted by this is once-in-a-generation opportunity – one that ensures that we are keeping and creating good-paying jobs with good benefits in our state.  I urge the legislature to move quickly so that we can send a clear message that Connecticut will continue to lead the world in the aerospace industry.”

 

Last month, Governor Malloy and senior officials at UTC announced an agreement

under which UTC will invest up to $500 million to upgrade and expand its aerospace research, development and manufacturing facilities over the next five years.  During the same time period, UTC expects to invest up to $4 billion in research and other capital expenditures in the state.  The agreement is expected to have an impact on more than 75,000 jobs in the state.

 

Specifically, the company will:

 

  • Construct a new Pratt & Whitney corporate headquarters, which it will keep in Connecticut for a minimum of 15 years
  • Construct a new Pratt & Whitney worldwide engineering center of excellence in Connecticut
  • Keep Sikorsky corporate headquarters in Connecticut for a minimum of five years
  • Create a customer training center at UTC Aerospace Systems (UTAS) in Windsor Locks
  • Build new labs and infrastructure at United Technologies Research Center (UTRC)
  • Invest in new research projects and capital investments at Pratt & Whitney, Sikorsky, UTAS and UTRC

 

Construction on the projects is expected to begin this year and continue through 2018.  The agreement does not require any borrowing or payments by the State of Connecticut, and is expected to create nearly 1,500 construction and other related jobs throughout the initial capital expansion.

TOWN/CHAMBER HOST SHOP & STROLL INTO SPRING

First Selectman Mike Tetreau announced today that the Town of Fairfield and the Fairfield

Chamber of Commerce will co-sponsor a “Shop & Stroll Into Spring” event on Thursday, April

3, 2014.

Participating shops in downtown Fairfield will stay open late and will offer patrons an assortment of

complimentary hors d’oeuvres and seasonal refreshments from 5 pm to 9 pm. Local restaurants will

be offering dinner or drink specials throughout the evening.

Bright Horizons at Fairfield, a daycare center, will also be offering discounted child care services

during the Stroll from 6 pm to 9 pm so that parents can enjoy a carefree night exploring downtown

Fairfield. The program can accommodate children up to ten years of age and will include a pizza

dinner and fun fitness and arts and craft activities. The program is limited to twenty children on a

Fairfield News: UI meter change not burglars at work

3:00pm–#Fairfield CT–A UI worker changing a meter gave a scare to a Hemlock Road resident.  The resident locked herself in closet and called her mother that she heard someone inside the home.  The mother then called police.  When police arrived to the home they found a UI doortag and discovered that the sounds the girl heard was the meter being changed and no one entered the home.

Bridgeport News: 4 in custody after foot pursuit

1:34pm–#Bridgeport CT–4 in custody after a brief foot pursuit in the James/Harral Street area.  Its not known what they were wanted for but ATF agents were on scene.   One did have a firearm.  Calls made to Kolby School and St. Augustine’s  s that all is under control and no danger due to the heavy police activity in the area.
