7:44pm–#Bridgeport CT–Firefighters put out a smoldering fire in a dryer at the Super Saver Laundromat at 1020 Fairfield Avenue. Apparently the laundromat was closed as firefighters had to force entry.

I spoke with Captain Perez of the Bridgeport Police Department on the phone to confirm some of the details of today’s police pursuit into Fairfield.
According to the captain police apprehended Charles Young after the pursuit. Police were investigating him for alleged drug dealings. He led police into pursuit onto I-95, with speeds exceeding 100 mph. He exited I-95 at exit 22, the North Benson Road exit. He attempted to re-enter the highway but crashed into a snowbank. K-9 was released but the dog doesn’t know the good guys from the bad guys and the dog bit 3 Bridgeport Police Officers, the most serious was Officer Hansen who was bleeding from the arm. It first thought an artery was hit but is was not. The officers were treated at Bridgeport Hospital.
Police recovered a firearm that was thrown from the vehicle as it exited the highway.
Captain Perez said Charles Young was involved in a shooting this year.

#FairfieldCT– Fairfield’s own clothing designer, Jennifer Butler, will present her Spring 2015 collection for women, men and girls at 8 pm, Thursday, March 5. After a wonderful success this fall, the fashion show will again be held at the Fairfield Public Library’s Bruce S. Kershner Art Gallery, 1080 Old Post Road. The evening begins at 8 p.m. with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres prepared by The Falcon’s Nest the restaurant and catering class at Roger Ludlowe High School. The jewelry for the show is provided by Jennifer Brown, hair and make-up by H Salon, photography by luciophotography and flowers by Bridge Floral. In addition, Jennifer Lilya, New York fashion illustrator will be signing copies of her newly released book, Fashion Illustration Art: How to Draw Fun and Fabulous Figures, Trends and Styles. Jennifer grew up in Fairfield, CT and used to work at the Fairfield Public Library during high school and college. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and majored in Fashion Illustration. A few of her clients are Dolce & Gabbana, Saks, Katy Perry, Barneys and Neiman Marcus.

Just seven years after the First Amendment was passed as part of the Bill of Rights, John Adams’ administration passed the Sedition Act of 1798, an extreme piece of legislation that made criticism of the government and its leaders a crime. Punishment included heavy fines and jail time. From a loudmouth in a bar to a firebrand politician to Benjamin Franklin’s own grandson, those victimized by the Sedition Act were as varied as the country’s citizenry. Liberty’s First Crisis vividly unfolds pivotal events in the early life of the United States when free speech was so soon challenged, and the Founding Fathers and Americans struggled to define and preserve the freedoms they had fought so hard to establish.
A reception with light refreshments will follow the author talk. Books will be available for purchase and signing at this event. Registration is requested.
Charles Slack is the award-winning author of several books. Hetty, based on the life of Wall Street pioneer Hetty Green, won the 2005 Connecticut State Book Award for Biography. Noble Obsession, based on the life of inventor Charles Goodyear, was named one of the 25 best “Books to Remember” for 2002 by The New York Public Library. Blue Fairways, an American journey based on a trip down the East Coast from Maine to Florida, one public golf course at a time, was a finalist for the United States Golf Association’s International Book Award. Slack lives with his family in Trumbull, CT.
