On Monday, November 9, police officers were dispatched to an apartment near the corner of Shelton St. and Pembroke St. after it was reported that a roommate had threatened another roommate with a knife. When police officers arrived, they entered the room of Jaime Feliciano from Bridgeport (DOB: 3/21/1978).
Upon entering Mr. Feliciano’s room, police officers witnessed him holding a spring loaded knife. Once police officers told Mr. Feliciano to put down the knife, he did immediately. Mr. Feliciano stated that he was renting a room from his roommate, Renzo Estuella from Bridgeport (10/30/1960), who was issued an eviction notice by their landlord due to failure to pay rent. Mr. Feliciano also stated that he had been giving Mr. Estuella funds for his half of the rent, and in Mr. Estuella claimed he was giving it to the landlord with his half of the rent. Apparently, Mr. Estuella was lying to the landlord by claiming the Mr. Feliciano’s half of the rent as his own, according to Mr. Feliciano. Mr. Feliciano then stated that when he confronted Mr. Estuella about it, he responded by grabbing a machete and threatening Mr. Feliciano with it. In self defense, Mr. Feliciano grabbed a knife, according to his account. When police officers asked Mr. Renzo if he owned a machete, he said “no.” A quick canvass of Mr. Renzo’s room turned up a machete under his mattress. Mr. Renzo then stated that he did not pull out the machete and threaten Mr. Feliciano with it.
Both Mr. Renzo and Mr. Feliciano were arrested and transported to booking. Mr. Renzo was charged with disorderly conduct, and threatening in the 2nd degree. Bond has been set at $5,000. NFL: Press Release: The safety of our fans, stadium personnel, and teams at all NFL games is our priority, and security at our games is robust. Our procedures have been certified and designated by the Department of Homeland Security since 2008 as effective anti-terrorism technology. All NFL clubs use mandatory metal detector screening and multiple layers of perimeter security external to the stadium to safeguard fans and the stadium from explosive threats.
Following the events in Paris on Friday, we are closely monitoring events and have been in communication with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, which have informed us that there are no known threats against NFL stadiums.
In addition to our standard procedures described above, there will be an increased security and law enforcement presence both inside and outside stadiums in the parking lots of our stadiums this weekend. We have been in contact with clubs hosting games to reinforce our standard procedures and the league’s best practices.
We strongly recommend that fans do not bring bags with them to the stadium. If it is essential to bring a bag, it must be in compliance with the clear bag policy which requires that it be made of clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12.” It is important that all fans comply with these requirements, and we appreciate their efforts to cooperate with these security measures.
The NFL and team security departments work closely with stadium operation personnel and federal, state, and local law enforcement to provide a safe experience for the more than 17 million fans who annually attend NFL games. The NFL and its teams continually evaluate and improve our comprehensive security plan.
#Bridgeport, Conn. (November 14, 2015) – Today, in the wake of terrorist attacks in Paris, France, Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett sent the following communication to all officers in the Department:
Subject: Message to Officers re: Recent Terrorist Attacks
To: ALL COMMANDS
In light of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris, France, all officers are reminded to remain vigilant while on and off duty, especially around transportation hubs and areas where large groups of people gather. While there are no specific or credible known threats to Bridgeport, or Connecticut, at this time, the sad reality is that radicalized individuals may take actions similar to those in Paris at any place and at any time. Never before has law enforcement’s role been so critical in identifying and thwarting potential terrorist action in our Homeland.
Our participation on the Joint Terrorism Task Force ensures that we are provided with the most up-to-date Intelligence with regard to any threats to our City. We will continue to use the Department’s email system to provide information from the Connecticut Intelligence Center (CTIC), and other State and Federal partners, to officers as expeditiously as possible. Please check your Department email on a regular basis. In addition, any critical information will be shared with officers during lineups.
Finally, I have attached an update from CTIC announcing the implementation of a Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) Server that allows officers and citizens to report suspicious activity directly through their website, thereby streamlining and accelerating the reporting process. Please share with others, as appropriate.
Our residents have been stunned by these series of attacks in Paris, and they rely upon us to ensure their safety. I know that you will not let them down. Please maintain your situational awareness at all times, and if you see something, say something.
