#Fairfield CT–First Selectman Tetreau announced that on Thursday, December 17, 2015, he joined scouts from Fairfield’s Troop 90, along with former Fire Chief Richard Felner, Matt Paules from Fairfield’s Department of Public Works and Kirstin O’Gorman, one of the scout mothers who was in charge of the Troop’s toy drive, to help deliver holiday gifts to 100 children at The Department of Children and Families (DCF) in Bridgeport.
The scouts, who had set out to “do a go turn daily”, which is the Troop’s slogan, collected gifts as a humanitarian scout project, allowing them to reach out to their Bridgeport neighbors and offer gifts to their most vulnerable peers.
In a letter sent to Troop 90, DCF Regional Administrator Ken Cabral thanked the Troop for “the bountiful array of toys, games, books and apparel.” He also stated, “We appreciate (the Troop), retired Fire Chief Felner, First Selectman Mike Tetreau and the (scouts) coming out in the rain to deliver all of the toys. The DCF social workers were delighted to see the abundance of toys on Friday morning (at the foster care holiday party)! The gifts have been delivered to very thankful foster families and children.”
First Selectman Tetreau said, “I want to wholeheartedly thank Troop 90 and its feeder Cub Scout Pack 401 for donating new, unwrapped gifts to their most vulnerable and less fortunate peers in Bridgeport. This is a tremendous act of kindness that benefits our Bridgeport neighbors. These gifts are extra special because they came from youth from different economic backgrounds in Fairfield who hand-picked gifts that they hoped their peers in Bridgeport would like. I also want to thank former Fire Chief Dick Felner, Matt Paules, Mrs. O’Gorman, and the four scouts who helped deliver this holiday cheer.”
Every year, each member of Troop 90 buys a new unwrapped toy to be donated. Troop 90 includes youth from the Town’s two high schools, three middle schools, and Burr Elementary School. The gifts are chosen by youth to give to other youth.
