Retirees Discussion Group at the Fairfield Public Library

#Fairfield, Connecticut- As more and more baby boomers retire, they are notcontent to just sit in the proverbial rocking chair. The Retiree Discussion Group wasrequested as a spin-off from last season’s Creating Yourself in Retirement program at the Fairfield Public Library. Join the discussion on Mondays, February 13, April 10 and May 8 at 7 pm at the Main Library, 1080 Old Post Road. Retirement is a time of enormous change that also promises great rewards. Join the conversation and learn what to expect in retirement and how to make a successful life change. Find out what worked and what didn’t for others navigating this transition. The  group will be led by Michael Amorosco, BBA, MBA who has been enjoying retirement for 20 years.

Advanced registration is required due to the limited space. All programs at the Fairfield Public Library are free of charge. Senator Murphy Awared Navy Distinguished Public Service Award

WASHINGTON – The United States Navy on Wednesday awarded U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) with the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award, the “highest form of public service recognition bestowed by the Department of the Navy to civilians who demonstrate outstanding service of substantial and long-term benefit to the Navy, Marine Corps, or Department of the Navy as a whole.” Murphy was presented the award by the Navy’s Chief of Legislative Affairs, Rear Admiral James T. Loeblein, on behalf of Acting Secretary of Navy Sean Stackley.

 

“This is a huge and completely unexpected honor. With all that our sailors and Navy families have given to Connecticut and our country, I should be the one giving them an award,” said Murphy. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for our brave Navy men and women. I spent a weekend aboard the USS Hartford under the Arctic last year, and I’ll never forget the professionalism and expertise I saw in those sailors. I will keep fighting in Congress, and especially on the Appropriations Committee, to make sure that our men and women have the best ships, submarines, and equipment in the world.”

Fairfield News: Child Hit By Car

Fairfield Police statement: On Saturday, 02/04/17 at 4:20pm, the Fairfield Police Department responded to a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle within the lot of Tomlinson Middle School, located at 200 Unquowa Road.  The  pedestrian was a juvenile who is a resident of Fairfield.  The vehicle involved, a 2006 Toyota Camry, was being operated by Gary Potmesil, a 76 year old male who resides in Norwalk. Potmesil was operating the Camry eastbound within the Tomlinson Middle School parking lot and collided with the juvenile with his front left fender.  The juvenile’s mother was on scene and called 911 immediately following the collision. The juvenile was transported to Bridgeport Hospital by AMR ambulance as a result of the injuries sustained. At this time the juvenile is in stable condition undergoing further testing. The collision is under investigation by the Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit.

2:21pm–#Fairfield Connecticut– Report of a  four year old child being hit by a car in the Tomlinson Middle School parking lot.  Radio reports say the child conscious and alert and being transported to the hospital.
