2019-07-27 @ 9:00pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating this crash at the circle of Fairfield Avenue/Commerce Drive/State Street. This car wound up into a fence after hitting a light pole.
Police UPDATE—A 22 year old Bridgeport man was traveling northbound on Madison Avenue operating a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle. As the motorcycle approached the intersection of Madison Avenue and Garfield Avenue a 36 year old Bridgeport man, operating a 2010 Toyota RAV4, was travelling eastbound on Garfield Avenue. The Toyota RAV 4 continued east on Garfield Avenue, crossed over Madison Avenue, and collided with the motorcycle. This collision caused the operator of the motorcycle to be ejected and land on the sidewalk at the northeast corner of the intersection. The motorcycle was located in the northbound lane of Madison Avenue at Garfield Avenue. During this time the Toyota RAV4 mounted the sidewalk at the same location (northeast corner of Madison and Garfield Avenue) and struck an 80 year old Bridgeport man who was walking westbound on Garfield Avenue. The Toyota RAV4 then came to a stop. The operator of the Yamaha motorcycle was transported to St. Vincent Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The pedestrian was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The operator of the Toyota RAV4 was uninjured and is cooperating with police. The Bridgeport Police Accident Reconstruction Team has responded to conduct further investigation. 2017-07-27 @ 6:30pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating a crash between an SUV, a motorcycle and pedestrian on Madison Avenue near Garfield Avenue. According to the assistant fire chief the motorcyclist was pinned under the SUV but was freed by civilians prior to first responders arrival. A pedestrian was also struck. The conditions of the two are not known at this time. This intersection has had its share of motorcycle-car accidents over the years.
#Ansonia CT–George & Lee-Ann’s Pool Party Band lead off with Saturday in the Park for the re-dedication of Abe Stone / Colony Park. Mayor Cassetti said he remembers as a child playing in the park and had noticed the decline in the park. He then set out to refurbish one of Ansonia’s public park jewels. Together with sponsors and utilities he was able to muster $17,000 make this happen. Installed were picnic tables, a boating pier, hiking trails, trails around the pond. The basketball courts were refurbished along with volleyball and soccer fields. The snack shack was also completely refirbished.
Next year the mayor hopes to have a fifty feet by eighty foot section of the pond dredged to bring swimming back to the pond.
The park was named for Abe Stone, a man who dedicated his life to the park. From picking up trash, turning the lights on for the skaters or shoveling the snow off the pond for the skaters Abe Stone did it for the love of the park.
Police UPDATE: On July 27, 2019 at 0113 hours, shots were fired at Newfield Avenue/ Revere Street. A 32 year old male victim was struck multiple times by gunfire and was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A large crowd formed after the shooting and was dispersed by patrol officers. Detectives worked throughout the night to process a crime scene and are working to establish a motive. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Bridgeport Police at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
2019-07-27 @ 1:18am–#Bridgeport CT– Police are investigating a shooting that took place on Newfield Avenue near Revere Street. Radio reports say he was shot in the head and in serious condition. Witnesses say this was a planning meeting for the Father Panik Village reunion scheduled for the Saturday. This is breaking news and there are not a lot of details at this time. Bridgeport Hospital is reported to be on lock down.
On July 23, 2019 The Stratford Police Department responded to a report of a preteen who was sexually assaulted in Town. It was determined the preteen met the suspect through the social media application “Snapchat”. The suspect created fake profiles on several social media applications. Using the fake profile the suspect lured the preteen from a residence where he sexually assaulted victim. Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Reginald W Sharp (DOB 03/13/1985) of Bridgeport. Sharp is a convicted sex offender currently on the sex offender registry. During the late evening on July 23, 2019 Stratford Detectives with the assistance of the Bridgeport Police Safe Streets Task Force and State of Connecticut Department of Probation located and arrested Sharp. He was charged with Sexual Assault 1st Degree, Enticing a Minor Using a Computer and Risk of Injury to a Minor. He is being held on a $2 million dollar bond.

Parents should be reminded that they should closely monitor their children’s social media accounts on a regular basis as many social media applications can be havens for predators.

HARTFORD, CT – State Senator Dennis Bradley (D-Bridgeport) joined New Haven Mayor Toni Harp, Shelton Police Chief Shawn Sequiera and state Representative Chris Rosario (D-Bridgeport) to announce the sixth annual Connecticut Big 3 Ball Out. Formerly known as the “Hoop it Up,” tournament, the multi-city basketball tourney will take place August 3 and 4 on Church Street in New Haven.
“This tournament is a great way to bring our cities together around friendly competition,” said Sen. Bradley. “I applaud all those involved with organizing this event, as it provides a positive outlet for many aspiring hoopers in the Park City. Bridgeport has a proud hoops history and the Connecticut Big 3 Ball Out is a chance for lovers of the sport, young or old, to write a page in that history book.”
The popular basketball tournament attracts players from across the state and region, with athletes from New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island forming teams and coming to New Haven to participate. Taking place in front of city hall, the two-day tourney consists of multiple teams broken down by age group. Basketball players as young as seven can form a team. Three hundred and fifty players are participating in the Connecticut Big 3 Ball Out this year.
The Church Street strip between Elm and Chapel Street will be closed off to traffic. The streets will house a dozen basketball courts for the tournament, which is free for fans to attend. The hoops tournament opens with a Celebrity Game at 10 am on August 3. Eight officials from Bridgeport, New Haven and Hartford, including Park City Mayor Joe Ganim, will tip off the tournament with a game.
