Bridgeport News: Murder Arrest

#Bridgeport CT–On September 20, 2023, members of the Bridgeport Police Department arrested 37-year-old Charles Lee Young for the September 27th, 2020, murder of Nyair Charles Nixon. Nyair was 21 at the time of his death. This violent crime occurred at the Keystone Lounge located at 1798 Barnum Avenue, Bridgeport, CT.

Charles Young is charged with 53a-54a Murder, 53a-217 Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and 29-35(a) Carrying a Pistol without a Permit. Young is currently in federal custody for unrelated charges. He will be arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court in early October. Bond is set at 1.5 million.

This arrest was the result of a combined effort between the Bridgeport Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Fairfield County States Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Tireless hours of work went into this case by former Bridgeport Police Detective Robert Winkler, Lieutenant John Andrews, Detective Carlos Vazquez, and Lieutenant Jason Amato.

Bridgeport News: One stabbed, one shot.

At 8:30 pm the Bridgeport ECC received a 911 call reporting a person with a stab wound to the head. Bridgeport Police and AMR were dispatched to the scene and reports indicate a party with what appears to be a non-life-threatening stab wound to the head. The person was transported to BPT Hospital.

Eversource Announces New Low-Income Discount Rate to Begin December 2023

Eligible customers receive 10% or 50% off electric bill
BERLIN, Conn. (Sept. 19, 2023) – A new Low-Income Discount Rate will be available for Eversource financial hardship customers in Connecticut beginning in December 2023. Depending on their household income, eligible customers will receive 10% or 50% off their electric bills per month. For example, if a customer has a $100 monthly bill, it would be $10 less if they receive a 10% discount or $50 less if they receive the 50% discount. Customers must have a financial hardship status on their electric account to receive the discount on their bill.“We know how challenging high energy costs can be and we want to help customers to afford their energy bill, especially those who are struggling to make ends meet,” said Eversource Vice President of Customer Operations Jess Cain. “This new low-income discount rate coupled with our other programs and assistance that are available can really help make a difference for lower income customers and their families.”Verified financial hardship customers are eligible for a 10% discount on their total monthly electric bill. Customers with an annual household income at or below 160% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines can qualify for the 50% discount rate. Customers can check if their income meets that criteria at Eversource.com/billhelp or they may call us at 800-286-2828. To verify eligibility, customers must submit receipt of a public assistance benefit for at least one household member or proof of income for all household members over 18, such as an Unemployment or Social Security benefit letter, current pay stubs or if self-employed, the most recent 1099 Form. Customers can visit Eversource.com or call the energy company at 800-286-2828 to submit the necessary documents.  Eversource customers enrolled in the Low-Income Discount Rate can still take advantage of other assistance programs, including:The Matching Payment Program can lower the amount customers owe on energy bills. Westport News: Radioactive Incident

2023-09-18@8:30pm–#Westport CT– A Fairfield assistant chief was returning from a call on I-95 when alarms went off in his vehicle alerting him to levels of radiation. He isolated it to a Ryder Truck and was able to get the truck to park at Sherwood Island State Park. Department of Energy & Environmental Protection Agents were called to the park along with state police. After a short period of time, they found the radiation with acceptable levels. The truck was carrying medical supplies which may have caused the activation. The truck is being cited for a number of violations including improper placard of hazardous materials.
