Bridgeport Fire Department Graduates 17 Recruits from Class 03-2024

Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Fire Department welcomed 17 new firefighters during a graduation ceremony on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the Common Council Chambers, 45 Lyon Terrace. Among the graduates of Recruit Class 03-2024 was one female firefighter, highlighting a step forward for diversity within the department.

The recruits successfully completed a demanding training program that included physical conditioning, tactical operations, and emergency response readiness.

Mayor Joe Ganim, members of the City Council, and fire department leadership attended the event alongside family, friends, and community members. The ceremony drew a large crowd, with attendees offering enthusiastic support for the new firefighters.

Fire Chief Lance Edwards said the department is still short-staffed by 15 firefighters with more recruitment soon. This new class will bolster Bridgeport’s fire department, enhancing public safety and emergency services throughout the city. The ceremony concluded with a standing ovation, as the graduates prepared to begin their assignments across various fire stations, ready to protect and serve the community.

Norwalk News: Norwalk Police Conducting Seat Belt Enforcement

The Norwalk Police Department will be proactively conducting traffic enforcement for seat belt violations leading up to and during the holiday season. Please be cognizant of all passengers in your car, especially children and the elderly. They may need guidance with certain safety measures such as seatbelts.

As a driver, the passengers’ safety is your responsibility, so please ensure everyone is buckled in. A motor vehicle accident may not be in your control, but using a seatbelt is. Be safe, keep your passengers safe, and enjoy a great holiday season.

This is a roving enforcement initiative, not fixed checkpoints. The dates we will be conducting the enforcement action are: Friday 11/29/24 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday 11/30/24 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and Monday 12/2/24 from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Traffic Advisory – Pequot Running Club Thanksgiving Day Road Race on Thursday, November 28, 2024

The Pequot Running Club of Fairfield will be holding their annual Thanksgiving
Day 5-mile road race and 2.6-mile walk this Thursday, November 28, 2024.


The event kicks off in Southport and the road race will initially enter Westport
town limits from Pequot Avenue/Beachside Avenue. It then travels north on Sasco
Creek Road, east on Greens Farms Road, northwest on Clapboard Hill Road, south on
Maple Avenue South, west on Greens Farms Road, south on New Creek Road and
then east on Beachside Avenue until the race again enters Southport on Pequot
Avenue.

A map of the route has been included along with this release.
The event is scheduled to begin promptly at 8:15am. It is estimated that
participants will have completely exited all Westport roads by approximately
10:30am. While the race is traveling through town, residents and motorists can expect
temporary road closures and associated traffic delays. Please alter any travel plans
accordingly, allowing extra time for delays caused by the event, and/or seek alternate
routes around the area wherever possible.

Bridgeport News: Police Seek Information in Hit-and-Run That Critically Injured Local Man

On November 22, 2024, at approximately 6:36PM, the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center received several calls for a motor vehicle versus a pedestrian collision/evading. The callers reported a pedestrian was struck at the intersection of Fairfield Avenue and State Street Extension. Bridgeport Fire Engine 7, American Medical Response (AMR), and Bridgeport Police Officers were dispatched to the location. Bridgeport Police Officers arrived on scene and observed Bridgeport Firefighters rendering aide to an unconscious male lying on the ground.  

AMR arrived shortly after and transported the male to Bridgeport Hospital. After a preliminary investigation, it was determined an unknown vehicle was traveling east on Fairfield Avenue and struck the male pedestrian in the intersection and fled the scene in an unknown direction. The male pedestrian was identified as a 44-year-old Bridgeport resident, and he’s listed in critical condition. The Bridgeport Police Serious Crash Investigation Team is currently trying to obtain video footage of the collision/evading.
