Blumenthal, Murphy Condemn Trump’s Strikes on Iran, Cite Lack of Authorization and Risk of War

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Connecticut Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy issued sharp condemnations following President Trump’s announcement that the United States had launched strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran. Both senators criticized the decision as reckless and unlawful, emphasizing the lack of congressional approval and the potential for escalation into a broader conflict.

Senator Blumenthal said while he agrees that a nuclear-armed Iran poses a global threat, the use of American military force must be guided by both strength and strategy. “The Constitution and War Powers Act require every President to inform Congress and seek approval for using American military force. President Trump has done neither,” Blumenthal stated. He called for Senate Republican leadership to bring Senator Tim Kaine’s war powers resolution to the Senate floor and urged the administration to explain its strategy to both Congress and the American public. “My immediate concern is protection for our 40,000 troops and other personnel in the region,” he added.

Senator Murphy echoed those concerns, characterizing the strikes as illegal and politically driven. “Donald Trump, a weak and dangerously reckless president, has put the United States on a path to a war in the Middle East that the country does not want, the law does not allow, and our security does not demand,” Murphy said. He denounced the influence of what he called “cheerleaders of war” and stated there is no intelligence indicating Iran posed an imminent threat. “Only Congress can declare preemptive war,” Murphy said, calling for an immediate vote to block further unauthorized military action.

Westport Police Department Arrests Residential Burglary Suspect


(Westport, CT) On June 21, 2025, at approximately 0240 hours, Westport Police responded to a residence on Riverside Avenue for a report from an out-of-town homeowner that there was an unknown male in his home.

Through his Blink security system, the homeowner observed and provided real-time updates to police about the unauthorized male in his home.

Officers immediately responded, surrounded the area, and located an unlocked, sliding glass door. The suspect unintentionally made himself visible on the third-floor balcony to officers and quickly retreated into the house.

Westport officers, with the assistance of a Connecticut State Police Trooper with K9 Gatti and a Norwalk officer with K9 Kato, entered the home in search of the suspect.

Norwalk Officer and K9 Kato located the suspect hiding in a closet where he was immediately taken into custody. The suspect, who was identified as Daniel S. Abraham (DOB 01/04/1973), had jewelry in his possession, which was later identified as stolen property from the residence.

Daniel S. Abraham was charged with CGS 53a-101, Burglary in the First Degree, and CGS 53a-125, Larceny in the Fourth Degree. Mr. Abraham is being held in police custody on a $100,000.00 bond. He is assigned a court date of June 23, 2024, at Stamford Superior Court.

The Westport Police Department reminds residents to lock their homes and vehicles, stay vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the police.

Fairfield Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Post Road: Fleeing Driver Located
Fairfield, CT — On 6/21/2025 at about 9:30 p.m., Fairfield Police responded to several 911 calls reporting a crash involving a moped and a vehicle on Post Road near South Benson Road. The striking vehicle fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival; however, during the investigation, officers were able to locate both the vehicle and the driver.

Despite lifesaving measures being taken on scene, the 25-year-old moped driver later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital. Out of respect for the family, the individual’s identity is not being released at this time.

The Fairfield Police Crash Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Traffic in the area was closed for about three hours while investigators conducted an on-scene analysis and began working to determine the cause of the crash.

We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of the victim during this difficult time. Our thoughts are with them as they grieve their loss.

We would also like to thank the members of the community who promptly reported the crash and those who voluntarily provided video footage to assist in the investigation. We also extend our gratitude to the officers, Fairfield Fire Department personnel, and members of American Medical Response (AMR) who responded swiftly to the scene.

A motorcyclist and a car collided at the intersection of Post Road and North Benson Road. According to multiple witnesses, the police were quick to arrive on the scene and began administering CPR. One witness told us on camera that a second officer arrived with what was thought to be a defibrillator. The man was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police said this was a hit-and-run accident.
