The Bridgeport Police Department today confirmed that Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, 24, who was found unresponsive in the street on Black Rock Ave. at approximately 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Rayo-Mairena’s one year-old daughter was found unharmed on the front porch of a house, several yards from her mother’s body. She was left there by a suspect. The child has been reunited with a family member through the state Department of Children and Families.
The victim was a native of Nicaragua and lived on Black Rock Ave. with her daughter.
A motive for the homicide is still being established. Domestic violence is not being ruled out.
Homicide detectives have developed strong leads and have received significant help from the community. They are reviewing a large amount of surveillance videos and are making strong progress.
The Bridgeport Police Department believes the homicide is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the general public.

The employees in Town Hall have been hard at work decorating their office doors to welcome Trumbull preschoolers, ages 0-5, for a fun, colorful parade with trick-or-treating at each department on Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
To participate, children ages 0-5 must be registered and be a Trumbull resident.
There will be two sessions. Registrations are limited to 20 children per session. One starting at 10:00 AM and the other at 11:30AM. Come in costume and trick-or-treat throughout Town Hall! Each child, age 0-5, is allowed to register for only one session and spaces fill up quickly. The event will begin in the Town Council Chambers.

Fairfield, CT – The Enchanted Castle returns this October hosted by the Junior League of Eastern Fairfield County. During this annual event, families travel through six rooms in Fairfield’s Burr Homestead, brought to life by storybook characters who skillfully narrate the tales of Cinderella, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Jungle Book, and The Wizard of Oz. The Castle is designed for children 2-10 years of age but will be sure to excite the whole family!
The Enchanted Castle will be held October 22 – 24 from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. and October 25 – 26 from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. & 1:30pm – 5 p.m. Please note that the Enchanted Castle will be closed on Saturday & Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $15 per ticket. Kids 2 and under are free. The School of Rock Fairfield House Band will also have a special performance at the event on Saturday, October 25 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Central High School celebrated the exceptional accomplishments of its students during the 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Scholars Awards Ceremony. The event recognized students who excelled in some of the nation’s most rigorous college level high school courses, demonstrating determination, discipline, and a strong commitment to academic excellence.
Students earned distinctions across a wide range of challenging AP subjects, including AP African American Studies, Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, English Language and Literature, Physics, Psychology, U.S. History, and World History. These courses demand intensive study, critical thinking, and mastery of complex material, skills that prepare students for success in higher education and beyond.
“Today, we were able to celebrate and recognize academic excellence at Central,” said Principal Eric Graf. “We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of these students and are very appreciative of all the teachers, families, and community members who have helped the students along the way.”
A total of 186 students earned passing scores on AP exams, including 53 students recognized as official AP Scholars for earning scores of 3 or higher on three or more exams. Among them, 11 students achieved AP Scholar with Distinction, 5 students earned AP Scholar with Honor, and 133 students received AP Honorable Mention for passing one or two exams.
