Bridgeport Students to See Bus Service Restored Under Negotiated Agreement

Bridgeport, CT – Bus service for Bridgeport Public Schools (BPS) students will be restored this fall following a negotiated transportation agreement led by the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE). The CSDE’s embedded Technical Assistance Team worked with the district’s transportation company to restructure the previous contract to reduce costs while maintaining services. Structure Fire

Three families were displaced after a structure fire in the 400 block of Maplewood Avenue late Monday morning. One person was injured, though the extent of their injuries is not yet known. Bridgeport Fire Chief Edwards said firefighters encountered heavy flames on the second floor at the rear of the building and quickly struck a second alarm to bring in more personnel and resources. Crews had the bulk of the fire knocked down within 15 minutes. The fire did extend into the attic. The $3.8 million expansion—funded primarily by the State Bonding Commission with additional support from the City of Bridgeport—adds an elevator, a wheelchair-accessible restroom, a conference room, and three new offices. The project also continues a decade-long transformation of The Klein, which began in 2016 with major technical upgrades, new carpeting, and the installation of a large exterior digital sign.
