I’m very happy to introduce you to Fred from Woods End Deli at 900 Wood Avenue as a new sponsor and helping keep DoingItLocal.com FREE to you! Woods End Deli is another gem I’ve passed by many times without stopping in. A client wanted to meet with me and she suggested having lunch here. It was like the “Who’s Who in Bridgeport”! So many notables in one place! It was also a lot like the TV show Cheers, all the staff knew each persons name!

Piazzo Barbera – Piedmonte
$9.99
Piedmonte may be famous for its Nebbiolo-based wines, Barolo and Barbaresco, but the inhabitants of this region in Northwest Italy don’t drink these big, tannic wines on an everyday basis. When it comes to a weekday dinner’s accompaniment, they usually turn to Barbera. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that this fruity and acidic wine has a reputation for food friendliness that extends beyond Italy. Just like the Italians, we can’t drink big wines every night either.

EVIL Cabernet Sauvignon
$10.99
Chris Ringland has done extensive work with some pretty serious Spanish labels already like Alto Moncayo. Enter Evil, en Espanol. Persistent, rounded, expressive red fruits, soft tannins and low acidity, this is ‘evil’ by intent. The style of Aragona is more red berry fruit driven and slightly floral with brown spice notes. The palate is open, engaging and more honest. As Chris Ringland has pointed out, ‘evil’ is ‘live’ backwards.
Mom can eat like a queen!
A quick impromptu survey today on DoingItLocal.com’s Facebook page indicated that mom’s are just looking to spend time with their kids and maybe be pampered a little or receive a handmade gift. Not every mom will want to go out to dinner, especially if getting around is a challenge.
Seafood at Swanson’s Fish Market at 2439 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield is the perfect answer! An oven set at 375 degrees
I have certainly learned the big difference of FRESH seafood this week. I always hated when my wife would cook seafood indoors, it would smell the house up for days. But she purchased her fish at the supermarket. This is NOT the case with Swanson Fish Market. FRESH fish should smell like he sea, if it smell like fish it is NOT fresh! I prepared the meal pictured to the right and then day later a tuna fish in the oven and it never smelled the house up. What big difference!
Don’t forget to treat mom and you with fresh cocktail shrimp. The freshness can’t be beat, the cocktail sauce is awesome!
