Vendor & Sponsor Opportunities for Shelton Day October 6, 2024



Always a multi-faceted popular event, The Derby-Shelton Rotary announces the annual Shelton Day festival will be held on Sunday, October 6th from 11-5. Spots are available for vendors who sell handmade crafts; food trucks; businesses; and everything in between. This event is still open for sponsors spots. Last year’s estimated attendance was close to 5000. This annual festival is held at Veterans Park, 38 Canal Street – Shelton.

Joe Shapiro, chairperson of the Shelton Day committee and president elect of the Derby-Shelton Rotary Club said “I am pleased and honored to chair this great event for a third year. I am so looking forward to tasting the wonderful food, hearing the great live bands, and shopping our local crafters and small businesses. I would like to thank in advance all our volunteers, vendors, and generous sponsors!

It’s a wonderful opportunity to get involved in the community and to get publicity for your business. Sponsors will receive a wide range of benefits depending on timing, such as social media exposure, and signage. Sponsorships start at $100. Vendor spaces start at $100.00 for Early Bird registration before October 1, 2024. Vendor spaces for non-profit organizations start at $50. This is a community tradition you don’t want to miss.

Shelton News: Two Arrested in Stolen Vehicle

On 09-03-24 just after midnight, Shelton Police were notified about a recent stolen vehicle out of Stratford. Several Shelton officers were working a construction job downtown at the time and noticed the vehicle in a parking lot on Center St. As officers approached the vehicle, three people fled on foot. Officers searched the area and were able to locate two of the three suspects. 18-year-old Devin Overton of Ansonia was arrested and charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Interfering. Overton was released after posting a $5,000 bond and is scheduled
to appear at Derby Superior Court on 10-24-24. A 17-year-old male from Shelton was arrested for the same charges and released.

Wrong-Way Driver Causes Collision on RT 8 Northbound in Shelton, Leads to DUI Arrest

A wrong-way driver on Route 8 Northbound in Shelton caused a head-on collision early on August 28, 2024, leading to a DUI arrest. At around 1:25 AM, Troopers from Troop I in Bethany responded to reports of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes near exit 12. Before Troopers could reach the scene, the wrong-way driver, identified as 39-year-old Andrea Lynn Marseglia of Orange, collided with another vehicle. The adult driver and juvenile passenger of the other vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

On arrival, Troopers observed that Marseglia, who was driving a white Lexus IS250, showed signs of impairment. She consented to and failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Based on the evidence gathered, Marseglia was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, risk of injury to a child, operating under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving the wrong way on a divided highway. She was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on September 11, 2024.

TWO ARRESTED IN ARMED FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE ROBBERY

On 08/29/2024 at approximately 9:45 PM, Shelton Police received a 911 call from a resident
of Perry Hill Rd. that they were just robbed at gunpoint. The victim reported that she met the
male and female suspect on the social media app, Facebook Marketplace, and agreed to purchase
Air Jordan Sneakers.
The victim reported that a male and female arrived at her residence in a silver suv. The victim
reported that a disagreement started over the cost of the shoes and she attempted to get her money
back from the front seat passenger. The victim stated that as she was attempting to get her money
back the male operator pulled a handgun out and pointed it at her. The victim reported that she
observed the vehicle drive off and observed that it had a paper license plate displayed on the back
of the car.
Moments later Officer Dinihanian spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling South
on Bridgeport Ave. Officer Dinihanian traveled behind the vehicle as it entered onto Route 8
Northbound, where a motor vehicle stop was conducted. During the traffic stop a loaded stolen
firearm and items related to the Facebook Marketplace sale were located inside the vehicle.
The operator identified as Wazim Ali Hariprashad, Age 19, of Bridgeport was arrested and
charged with Robbery 1 st degree, Conspiracy to commit Robbery 1 st degree, Theft of a Firearm,
and Carrying a Pistol without a permit. Harisprashad was placed on $100,000.00 bond and
scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on 08/30/2024.
The female passenger identified as Caroline Gabriela Ruiz-Robinson, age 18 of Bridgeport
was charged with Robbery 1 st degree and conspiracy to commit robbery 1 st degree. Ruiz-
Robinson posted a $50,000.00 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on
09/16/2024.

Shelton News: Police Investigate Serious Motorcycle Accident on Walnut Tree Road

On July 19, 2024, at approximately 10:09 AM, the Shelton Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a motorcycle and motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Walnut Tree Road and Thompson Street in Shelton. Upon arrival, Shelton Police and EMS found a 21-year-old male and a 22-year-old female in the roadway with serious injuries.

The Shelton Police Accident Reconstruction team was dispatched to investigate the incident. Initial findings indicated that the male operator of the motorcycle, with his female passenger, was traveling south on Walnut Tree Hill Road. A motor vehicle traveling north on Walnut Tree Hill Road attempted a left turn onto Thompson Street, colliding with the motorcycle and obstructing its path.

Both the motorcycle operator and his passenger were transported to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment. The female passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was admitted, while the male operator remains in intensive care with critical injuries. The 17-year-old male driver of the motor vehicle involved in the accident was uninjured.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing, and no enforcement action has been taken at this time. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant information is urged to contact the Shelton Police Department Traffic Division at (203) 924-1544.

Shelton News: Shelton man sexually assaults Neighbor

On 04/24/2024 the Shelton Police received a complaint from a 29-year-old female that her next-door neighbor had sexually assaulted her. The female stated she went next door to 76-year-old Dennis Barry’s house to see if her package was mistakenly delivered to him. She claimed while there Barry inappropriately kissed her and fondled her breasts. The female also claimed that Barry tried to get her to touch his genital area.
Barry was arrested and charged with Sexual Assault 4th Degree. Barry was released on a $2500.00 bond and as part of his conditions of release, he is to have no contact with the female neighbor. Barry was given a Derby Superior court date of 4/29/2024.

Shelton Update in Stabbing

On April 23rd, at approximately 7:45pm, Shelton Police and EMS were called to a residence on Walnut Tree Hill Road for a report of a stabbing. Police arrived and located one victim. The victim was a 35-year-old female. The initial investigation revealed that a male and two females were hanging out at the residence. An argument ensued between the male and the victim. The male then physically assaulted and strangled the victim. The male got a knife and stabbed the victim. The male then got into a vehicle and fled the scene. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the assault and was evaluated by EMS at the scene. Two juvenile teenagers were also at the residence, but were not harmed. Police also determined that one of the teenagers was trying to call 911 to report the incident, but the other adult female on scene was trying to get the phone and prevent the call to police. That adult female, 33-year-old Sarah Graf of Shelton, was arrested and charged with Interfering with an Emergency Call. Follow up investigation identified, Christopher Graham, Age 38, of Shelton as the suspect in this incident. Trumbull Police Patrol Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop of Graham’s vehicle in the parking lot of Best Buy located at 100 Hawley Lane, where he was taken into custody. Graham was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital for self inflicted injuries, where he was treated and released. Graham was processed and charged with Assault 2nd degree, Strangulation 2nd degree, Reckless Endangerment 1 st degree, Risk of Injury, Carrying a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct.
