Trumbull Robbery Suspects Apprehended in Westport

On Sunday, August 18, 2024, shortly before 5:00pm, Westport officers were advised to be on the lookout for a black Infiniti occupied by three male suspects. This vehicle was reported to be involved in an armed robbery in Trumbull, CT during which a firearm was reported to have been displayed. The suspect vehicle was initially spotted and briefly pursued by the Trumbull Police Department. It was last seen southbound on Interstate 95 near Exit 23. Shortly thereafter, a Westport officer observed the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on Greens Farms Road. It continued toward Bridge Street where Westport officers successfully deployed stop sticks. The vehicle continued, disregarding officers’ signal to stop and proceeded toward Saugatuck Avenue where further pursuit was terminated due to the recklessness of the operator. The suspect vehicle then continued southbound on Saugatuck Avenue, at times traveling southbound in the northbound lane of travel. The suspect vehicle ultimately struck another uninvolved motorist on Saugatuck Avenue at the intersection of Duck Pond Road and sustained disabling damage. The three occupants fled the vehicle.

With the assistance of Norwalk Police and the Connecticut State Police, a perimeter was established, and two suspects were quickly located in the immediate vicinity. A third suspect was also located after a further search. Saugatuck Avenue was closed for a brief period while officers investigated the motor vehicle crash. An eyewitness also reported that the occupants were observed discarding items from the vehicle while traveling south on Saugatuck Avenue. An area search was conducted, and a firearm was recovered.

The operator of the struck motor vehicle was transported to Norwalk Hospital with minor injuries. The operator of the suspect vehicle was issued a misdemeanor summons and charged with failure to drive right, reckless operation and engaging police in pursuit. All three suspects were juveniles. They were turned over to the custody of Trumbull Police to be charged in connection with the original incident.

Police activity has ceased in the area. All three involved parties were located and there is no threat to the public at this time. For further inquiries related to the incident, please contact the Trumbull Police Department.

Westport Human Services Seeks Community Support for Children’s Back-to-School and Afterschool Childcare “Family-to-Family” Programs

Westport, CT—Human Services Director Elaine Daignault announced the launch of the Town’s annual Back-to-School and Afterschool Child Care Campaign today. The Family-to-Family fundraising campaign helps income-eligible Westport families and students prepare for the upcoming academic year.

According to Daignault, “As exciting as the back-to-school season is, many Westport families face difficult financial decisions as they navigate the rising cost of food and housing expenses combined with the additional burden of purchasing school supplies and clothing for their children immediately following summer childcare and camp expenses that have stretched their budgets.”

Human Services Family-to-Family programs rely on community donations to provide crucial resources for Westport’s financially insecure families. Community contributions allow Human Service to:

  • distribute Walmart gift cards to bridge the financial gap for families who must purchase school supplies, backpacks, clothing, and other essentials to prepare their children for the new school year.
  • provide families with crucial aftercare financial assistance for children who require safe, enriching, and nurturing environments after school so their parents can continue to work and provide for their families.

“Community donations provide more than financial support; they also create a community connection for families that can often feel disconnected from their peer groups, offering financial and moral support during difficult times,” said Daignault.

Tax-deductible donations of any amount will directly and positively impact the lives of those in need. No contribution is too small; every dollar counts in Human Services’ efforts to support hardworking families. To contribute:

State Police Cruiser Hit on I-95 in Westport, New York Man Charged for Not Moving Over

On July 27, 2024, around 3:08 a.m., state troopers from Troop G – Bridgeport responded to a car accident on I-95 southbound near Exit 17 in Westport.

At the scene, a stationary State Police cruiser with its emergency lights on, assigned to Trooper Galej (#1158), was positioned in the left lane.

A 2015 Kia Sorrento, driven by Sonny Abdul-Hardy (born February 21, 1977), was traveling in the left lane and failed to slow down or move over. Abdul-Hardy’s vehicle hit the rear of the stationary police cruiser.

Trooper Galej was outside his vehicle at the time of the accident and was not injured.

Abdul-Hardy was treated on-site by Norwalk EMS for minor injuries but refused to be transported to a hospital.

Both the cruiser and the Kia were towed away due to severe damage.

Abdul-Hardy received a ticket for following too closely and failing to move over for an emergency vehicle, violating Connecticut’s “Move Over” law.

The Connecticut State Police remind drivers to be extra careful when approaching police, fire, EMS, Department of Transportation vehicles, and tow trucks. These operators are working to keep highways safe.

Remember, Connecticut law requires drivers to slow down and move over for stationary emergency vehicles on the highway.
