Help for Local Businesses
According to Second Selectwoman Jen Tooker, “In an effort to develop relationships with our local business leaders and to work on creative ways to support them, Westport is launching a “trusted advisor” program in partnership with the local non-profit Social Venture Partners (SVP). With access to the talented business men and women who serve as partners at SVP, our local businesses will be able to get financial and business consulting services to help them navigate these uncharted times for free. We will also be working with our Chamber of Commerce to bring SBA loan information to our business community.” More information on the Trusted Advisor program will be forthcoming. In the meantime, if you are able, please consider contributing to the local economy by supporting local restaurants by purchasing giftcards, or buying take-out meals for curbside pick-up or delivery.
It is imperative that everyone stay safe and stay home. Residents should be self-isolating and maintaining “virus distancing” everywhere. Stores and certain businesses remain open to insure that food and essentials are available to the public. All other activities where people may congregate in groups must be avoided. Please do your part – self-isolate and maintain virus distancing at all times and do not gather in groups.
If you are visiting a supermarket or convenience store, please maintain appropriate social distancing while you shop, and encourage the personnel in these establishments to follow CDC and WWHD recommended hygiene procedures. The WWHD will be increasing its efforts to enforce proper hygiene procedures in all food service establishments, but customer encouragement will also go a long way. If anyone notices a business not following the proper protocols, please contact the Westport Weston Health District at 203-221-7199.
Barbers, hairdressers, cosmetologists, nail technicians, estheticians, eyelash technicians, and massage therapists are discouraged from providing services to customers in homes and other private locations, other than for their immediate families.
The following are restrictions at Winslow Park:
· No off leash areas. All dogs must be kept on leash.
· Pets are to be kept close to the handler.
· The 6 ft. physical distancing protocol is to be followed for people and pets.
Elected bodies will continue to meet as needed and meetings will be televised on the usual cable channels using Zoom technology.

#Westport CT– The Westport Police Department has always been and continues to be a service-oriented agency committed to protecting our community and prioritizing the safety of our residents and visitors. It has become apparent that the COVID-19 outbreak is an unprecedented public health crisis; one that will necessitate the modifications of our current operations in the interest of furthering the above goal. With that in mind, effective immediately and until further notice, the Westport Police Department has implemented some important changes to our current operations in the interest of protecting both our public and our officers alike from the spread of this illness.
We encourage those requiring our services to contact us via telephone rather than traveling to the police department in person, since under only certain special circumstances will visitors be granted access beyond the main lobby of our headquarters. Calls made to our non-emergency and emergency lines will continue to be answered as they always have been. Callers should now expect that the operator will ask a series of questions to determine the nature and details of the call in order to determine whether or not officers are required to respond. Officers will continue to respond to crimes in progress, violent offenses, and medical emergencies. If the call does not meet the criteria for response based on the screening questions but requires follow-up, the call taker will ascertain pertinent information from the caller and log the complaint. This complaint will then be assigned to an officer or detective who will then remotely conduct a follow-up investigation.
In addition to the above, wherever possible the Westport Police Department reminds our residents that they can also utilize our online reporting system for many non-emergency situations. Incidents that can be reported in this manner are as follows:
Harassing Phone Call
Damage to Motor Vehicle
Identity Theft
Lost Property
Theft
Vandalism
Vehicle Burglary
Vehicle Tampering
The records division has been partially closed and will no longer process requests at the window. We ask that you, therefore, do not travel to the police department seeking reports or with any other inquiries. All records related inquiries should be directed to (203) 341-6001. Please also note that civilian records personnel are currently working on limited hours. If unable to reach someone, please leave a message detailing the information you are seeking and expect that someone will return your call as soon as possible. Any requested records will be sent electronically to minimize contact. Railroad parking inquiries should continue to be directed to (203) 341-6052. Parking tickets should be paid or appealed online. As a reminder, motor vehicle accident reports can be retrieved from our online portal through the following link: https://www.westportct.gov/government/departments-a-z/police-department/online-services/online- mv-accident-reports.
Lastly, fingerprinting services are suspended indefinitely. No appointments will be accepted until further notice. It is the responsibility of all of us to do our part to keep each other safe and healthy. We anticipate that these changes will be temporary, and look forward to restoring all normal services as soon as is feasible. Thank you to our citizens for their understanding and patience during this difficult time.

At approximately 11:39pm on Friday March 13, 2020, officers responded to the apartments located at 7 Post Road West on a noise complaint. The complainant reported loud noises coming from the neighboring apartment consistent with banging on the walls. Within the last week, officers responded to the same location on three other occasions for a complaint of loud music or other excessive noise coming from the same apartment. On two of these occasions the resident of that unit, identified as Tyler Bierman, had been verbally warned about the noise by the responding officers. On the third occasion, which occurred earlier this same evening (approximately 9:44pm on Friday March 13, 2020), Bierman was issued an infraction for creating a public disturbance. As a result of this fourth complaint, he was taken into custody.
Based on this investigation, Bierman was charged with a 53a-181(a) Breach of Peace in the Second Degree. Bond was set at $1,500.00. Bierman was able to post this bond and was released from custody. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court at 9:30am on Monday March 30, 2020.
#Westport CT– On the morning of December 16, 2019, Robert Mebane was involved in an incident that occurred at Honda of Westport; 1372 Post Road East. At that time, Mebane was suspected of attempting to steal wheels and tires from vehicles parked in the lot of the closed business. He was arrested for multiple charges. As a continuation of that initial investigation, a search warrant was sought and granted for a vehicle found near the scene believed to belong to Mebane. During the course of the execution of that search warrant, detectives located two Connecticut registration marker plates that had previously been reported to police as stolen. Also located were six tablets of suspected Methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA); a drug more commonly known as Ecstasy. Presumptive testing of these pills yielded a positive result for the presence of MDMA. Based on these findings, an arrest warrant was sought and granted for Mebane seeking additional charges.
On the afternoon of Wednesday March 11, 2020, the Westport Police Department was contacted by members of the Connecticut State Police Troop G who were reporting that Robert Mebane was currently in their custody and being held on our active warrant. Officers transported Mebane back to Westport Police headquarters for processing. Per the warrant, he was charged with violations of 21a-279(b) Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of 14-147a Theft of Registration Marker Plates. Bond was court set at $2,500.00. Mebane was able to post this bond and was released from custody. He is scheduled to be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court at 9:30am on Friday March 20, 2020.
