8:01pm–#Bridgeport CT–The Subway at 926 East Main Street was robbed at gunpoint. Police are looking for a white male, about 6 foot tall wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, a partial lower face mask over his facial hair. The part of the handle of the gun came off upon exiting the store. He made off with $200 and fled on foot north on East Main Street. This was about a half mile from where the shooting took place around 7:30pm
7:40pm–#Bridgeport CT–Report of man shot on Hamilton Street (off East Main Street) UPDATE: Man was shot in the arm and injuries are not life threatening. Witnesses told me it was possibly over a domestic argument but police have not confirmed this. The police investigation has just begun.

12:36pm–#Bridgeport CT–A woman pulled a knife on security after she was approached for shoplifting at Compare Foods at 1050 East Main Street. Security followed her to Maple Street where police apprehended her.

(Bridgeport, CT – March 12, 2014) – The city broke ground this week on a memorial to honor the 12 Bridgeport police officers who died in the line of duty.
“This is an inherently dangerous job,” said Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr., “and it is so important to honor and remember the people who gave their lives protecting our citizens. But it is more than that. This memorial is for their families. This will be for our past, current and future officers. Officers work so hard every day. My hope is, as officers drive past this memorial, it will remind them to stay safe as well.”
He applauded the effort of Bridgeport Police Union Local 1159, whose members began working on this project nearly three years ago.
Sgt. Charles Paris, the president of Local 1159, said the memorial for officers will “make you think about the men and women who came before you” and the sacrifices they made for this city.
The last officer to die in the line of duty was Patrolman Jerry DiJoseph on Nov. 28, 1980.
“My hope is we will never have to add another name to this somber list,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “I hope that part of the training for every police academy class moving forward will be to visit this memorial and to reflect on the sacrifices of the people who blazed the trail before them.”
The union and the City have been working to raise private funds to help construct the memorial, which will be located outside Police Headquarters at 300 Congress St.
(Bridgeport, CT – March 11, 2014) – A 22-year-old woman faces an assault charge after a dispute.
Officer Dave Rivera was dispatched to 1295 Howard Ave. on a report of an assault and spoke to a victim who stated she was helping her in-laws clean an apartment that they were renting. She stated she had moved some belongings of the previous tenants to the porch so they could clean and an argument started when the previous tenants arrived to pick up their belongings.
A verbal argument turned into a physical confrontation. According to the victims, the assailants allegedly were armed with a screw driver, a hammer and a two-by-four and assaulted the two women, a mother and daughter. The suspects then fled in vehicles.
Police later tracked down one of the suspects, Natasha Rodriguez, of Bridgeport. She acknowledged that there had been a physical confrontation but stated that there were no weapons.
Rodriguez was charged with second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor and breach of peace. Her bond was set at $5,000. The investigation is ongoing.
