Truck hits tree in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT, May 6, 2013: The Fairfield Fire Department’s Engine Five, Ladder Two and Car Three responded to a report of a vehicle crashed into a tree off of the road in front of 1261 Congress Street on Monday May 6, 2013 at 5:36 p.m. The 911 caller reported that there was still one occupant trapped inside of the black truck. Due to that additional information, Ladder One was special called to the scene for manpower and equipment.

At 5:46 p.m. Engine Five, under the direction of LT Lauri Jepsen arrived on scene and found a Black Toyota Tundra off-the-road after hitting a tree. There was extensive front end damage to the vehicle, the left front wheel was completely removed, and there was a risk of fire. Engine Five personnel utilized an extinguisher as a precaution and attended to patient care. Both patients were located outside of the vehicle. The driver was found lying in the brush with extensive trauma; personnel found the steering wheel severely damaged. The occupant reported no injuries. Assistant Chief Erik Kalapir, in Car Three, arrived on scene and took command of the incident and immediately requested Police to close the nearest intersections. Ladder One was placed in service due to the fact that both of the occupants self-extricated. Ladder Two stabilized the full sized pickup and assisted with patient care. Patient/driver was stabilized with a cervical collar and backboard. American Medical Response Ambulance arrived on scene and the driver was quickly transported to Saint Vincent’s Hospital. A refusal of medical care was obtained by the occupant/rider. Ladder Two and Car Three returned to service.

The vehicle battery was disconnected and Engine Five awaited the arrival of the towing company. Engine Five cleared the scene at 6:30 P.M.

Additionally; The police department remained on scene to conduct an accident investigation and notified Public Works of the heavily damaged tree.

Bomb threat at Bassick……again

12:44pm–#Bridgeport CT–Fire fighters from Battalion One is on scene investigating another bomb threat at Bassick High School. This is the third one in a week.

Mini Strip Mall Fire in Bridgeport

Video Report–10:30pm–#Bridgeort CT–Just after 10:30 pm Sunday night a police officer on patrol called in a fire at a mini strip mall at 540 Park Avenue at the corner of South Frontage Road. Firefighters first on scene reported heavy fire in the back o f the building. The building is totally vacant but initial radio reports indicate concerns on the apartment to the right of it until it was realized the apartments were not attached. The fire marshal was called to the scene and he has begun his investigation for the source of the fire. There were no injuries.

Shots fired at PT

12:20am–#Bridgeport CT–Shots fired between 2 males at PT Barnum Housing near building two on Shell Street. Suspects fled down Bird Street. No one or anything reported hit. Police are on scene investigating.

Bicyclist hit by car

2:50pm–#Bridgeport CT –A bicyclist has been hit by a car at Clermont Avenue and East Avenue. First responders on the way. UPDATE–A child on a bicycle was being chased by a dog and the child hit a parked car. EMS checking em out!

Citizens on edge

11:20am–#Stratford CT–Police were called to Orthodox Greek Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist 1240 Broadbridge Ave due to a man with a briefcase. They caller thought it was unusual for someone to bring a briefcase to church……..

Naked Man!

1:24am–#Bridgeport CT–#nakedman–Report of a man exposing himself in the 400 block of Poplar Street. Police on the way. Man if this isn’t another reason to support your police department I don’t know what is!

Report of a fire outside Cablevision

11:21pm–#Norwalk CT–Report of a fire outside Cablevision at 23 Cross Street along the train tracks. Report of trees and possibly the building on fire. Firefighters on the way. Of course first on DoingItLocal.com. Maybe tomorrow on News12. UPDATE–Fire at News12/Cablevision sounds to be a brush fire outside the building near the tracks. Theft from a pick up truck

10:20pm–#Bridgeport CT–Police are investigating a theft of a commercial grade lawnmower chained and bolted to the back of a pickup truck was just stolen by two men who had bolt cutters and removed the lawnmower. The incident occurred on Capitol Avenue (sorry I didn’t get a cross street.
