Rollover Accident in Fairfield

Just after midnight police, fire department and EMTs were called to Melville Drive in Fairfield for a rollover accident.  Fire department received additional reports of possible fire in the van.  It has been our reporting experience that calls of fire is usually smoke emitted from the air bag deployment.  Firefighters stretched a line but it wasn’t necessary.  Assistant Fire Chief George Gomola told us that the van struck the parked vehicle on the street and took out a fire hydrant as well.  Witnesses told us the van laid on top of the car for a short period of time before rolling on to it’s side into the road.  The driver of the van was checked by paramedics and released.  The driver was seen being tested for driving while impaired, handcuffed and placed into a police cruiser.

Over 20 Shots Fired On Poplar Street Bridgeport

20-25 Shots Rang Out Just After 11pm

Police were called to multiple reports of shots fired on Poplar Street just after 11pm Tuesday night.  One of the callers was EMTSs from American Medical Response who were on scene and heard 20-25 shots fired, other witnesses confirmed this report.    Witnesses report there was more than one gun being fired but it was uncertain if it was the same shooter.  Amazingly no one was shot or injured.  There was one close call for a man who lived at the corner of Poplar Street and Fairfield Avenue as shots whizzed above his head as he slept, glass from the window landing on his chest.    Witnesses told us that the shooter got out for the vehicle he was in and began picking up items in the street, possibly gun shell casing but there were plenty of them left behind.  The vehicle, a dark colored vehicle was seen speed off towards Fairfield Avenue.  Bridgeport Police immediately called Connecticut State Police expecting the car to flee onto nearby I-95.  Police are investigating.
