9:10pm–#Bridgeport–Police, Fire and EMTs responded to a car accident at the corner of Barnum and Hallett Street once again tonight. Last week a police car responding to a call crashed into a passenger vehicle with one officer still in the hospital with a broken pelvis. Earlier this spring there was a crash between a pickup truck and city bus.

FAIRFIELD-Reef Road Units on scene- found explosive device in garbage can, Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad on scene.

We are hearing from various sources including Seymour Fire Department of electrical power outages throughout the area. UPDATE–Power was restored after 6am, a substation in Beacon Falls was the reason.

Milford–Milford Police arrest James Edwards, a 22 year old man after he allegedly burglarized a motor home on Pond Point Avenue. Police canine tracked him to marsh not far from the area where he was arrested.

3:13pm–#Norwalk–Pedestrian struck by car in front of the Super Stop and Shop on Connecticut Avenue.

1:27pm–Firefighters free 3 year old boy’s finger that he got stuck in a hole on his grandfather’s pick up truck on Kossuth Street. Firefighters had to cut the hole bigger to free the child’s finger. Child is fine and did not require medical attention.

12:26pm–#Fairfield–If driving, watch for two people on a wheel chair on Unquowa Bridge. Police will be checking it out.

12:15pm–#Bridgeport–EMTs on the way to Luis Munoz School on Helen St. for a student that swallowed magnets, now stuck in his throat.

Shootings in Bridgeport Thrusday Night

2nd Shooting in the Park City Thursday Night

Police are investigating a shooting that took place on Beechwood Avenue near Norman Street just after 10pm Thursday night.  According to EMTs the victim was shot several times  while sitting in his car.  This was Bridgeport’s second shooting of the night, a person was shot at the Mobil Station at 3196 Main Street around 8pm.  The victim at that shooting was driven to St. Vincent’s Hospital by private car around 8pm.  Condition of both victims are unknown at this reporting.

 

 

Bridgeport Police Car Involved In Crash

2 officer and 2 civilians had to be extricated by the fire department

Shortly after 8:30pm Wednesday night a Bridgeport Police Car was involved in a crash that required the fire department to extricate two police officers and two civilians from their car near the corner of Barnum Avenue and Hallett Street. It is unknown at this time the status of the officer or civilians or if the patrol car was involved in active police activity at the time of the accident. This intersection was the scene of an accident with a city bus and pickup truck earlier this year.

Fairfield Public Safety Awards

Fairfield’s bravest in Police and Fire Departments were presented awards Tuesday night.

The Fairfield Fire Department is presented Fire Chiefs Awards, Exceptional Medical Service Awards, Unit Citations of Valor, Honorable Service Medals, and Joseph S. Elias Meritorious Service Awards, while the Police Department presented Chief’s Letters of Recognition, Letters of Commendation for Honorable Service, and Unit Citations. The agencies will then join in recognizing several members of the community with Civilian Public Safety Awards for extraordinary actions over the past year.

Test Ride Fairfield’s New Police Boat

Boat is capable of 60 knots!

A boat that would make “More Power” Tim Allen proud reaching speeds of 60 knots.  The boat is equipped with the latest high tech tools and electronics.  The boat was funded from Homeland Security Funds and was at no cost to the town.  The boat will be used to protect the regional town waters.  Fairfield is considered a first responder to the city of Bridgeport in the event of mass casualty.  This replaces one of the town’s boats which has already been posted in the trade publications as “for sale”.

REPORTED HELICOPTER CRASH INTO THE EAST RIVER AT 34TH ST.

3:40pm–Third person pulled from the water.

3:42–Fire Department says four rescued, one unaccounted for.

4:One Firefighter diver in water 1 PD diver in water Marine boats on scene trying to locate helicopter. Duration is 34 min. 4 rescued 1 unaccounted -Info just given by FDNY Division Chief 3

4:44pm–Helicopter was a Bell 206, pilot has been resuced. Rescuers are still searching for the fifth passenger. CBS TV has exclusive video immediately after the crash.

4:45pm–Fire department reporting 5th person found, one “black tag” which is code for deceased.

WNBC is reporting the passengers were from the United Kingdom with mother, daughter, step father and daughters friend.  The pilot swam back to the pier and refused medical treatment.

Red Tide Brings Electric Blue Waves

Red Tide near San Diego creates Bioluminescent Ocean Waves. Not every wave glows an electric blue but a few do. The color and name comes from plankton which appear red in the day and glow at night.
The bioluminescence is generated by a chemical reaction/process involving the phytoplankton Lingulodinium polyedrum, and driven by motion of the waves.    Read more…..

Fairfield Firefighters Donate $17,000 to Wounded Troops

The Fairfield Firefighters recently donated $17,000 to Operation Gift Cards, a local program that visits troops in military hospitals who were wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq. Since October 2005, the Operation Gift Cards’ 74 monthly/bimonthly visits have presented over $499,000 in post exchange (military department store) gift cards, special group product donations (Girl Scout cookies, laptops, corporate gift certificates etc.) and over $50,000 worth items on the “wish list” for both the wounded troops and their families.

Thanks to the incredible effort of the Fairfield Firefighters this years Stratton Faxon Fairfield Road Races were the best ever, according to Fairfield Half Marathon President Steve Lobdell, a retired Captain with the Fairfield Fire Department. This year alone firefighters raised approximately $440,000 for local charities, the Hole in the Wall Gang and several veterans and wounded soldier groups. The firefighters have raised more than $2,000,000 since it’s inception back in 1981. In 1981 there were 161 participants and over the years entries have increased to nearly 6,000 runners in 2011.The half marathon has not only been a great source of revenue for the Non-profits, it has also been ranked by runners World magazine among the top races in the United States having hosted the Women’s United States Half Marathon Championship as well as the U. S. Men’s Masters Championship.

Fire at Gregory Circle in Stratford

Around 8pm Sunday night firefighters received a call from 113 Gregory Circle that smoke was entering her apartment from another adjoining apartment. Firefighters responded and quickly responded and put out the blaze. It appears an electric extension cord may be the cause. The Fire Marshall was called to the scene by 8:20pm. One woman appeared to be checked by EMTs for smoke inhalation.
