Former First Selectman Flatto answered questions from the RTM Subcommittee Wednesday

Former First Selectman Ken Flatto voluntarily appeared on his own time as a private citizen to address questions from the RTM subcommittee. HazMat Situation in Fairfield

Fairfield County HazMat Called in to Fairfield

Fairfield Fire Department responded to a smoke condition at Metal Specialties on Commerce Drive around midnight. Firefighters found an odd-colored flame and realized it was a chemical reaction taking place in the plant. Firefighters quickly retreated and called in the Fairfield County Hazmat Team. Fire officials tell us everything worked to plan, the public was never in danger and the building was vented and metered at all times. Fire department turned over the property back to the owners around 3am.

Four teens traveling south in a SUV hit a a car, snapped a utility pole and then climbed CVS’s embankment and hit a Lincoln Town Car shortly after 10pm on Tuesday.  One teen was treated and a woman in the other vehicle was taken to an area hospital for her injuries.  The initial impact occurred at Old Stratfield Road and ended in CVS’s parking lot, approximately 185 feet away.

Pickup Crashes, Calls Buddy, He Crashes Too on Congress Street Fairfield

Shortly before 10pm  a man crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole while riding on Congress Street.  The pole snapped in two.  The first fire truck on scene reported that there were wires down and the pole with the transformer was on fire.  The crash victim called his friend, who upon arrival was blinded by the glare of his buddies pickup truck’s light crash causing the second accident.  One man was transported to the hospital and it appeared that the other man was arrested by police.  Fire department departed the scene around midnight.

2:42pm–#Fairfield–Police received a a call from the Happy Dollar Store on Villa Avenue for a fight and one of the men had a gun.  Fairfield Police received another call from citizens that three pickup trucks at the same location surrounded another car, the white car in this photo.   A barrage of Fairfield Police cars rushed to the scene, including one car with an M-1/AK-47 style assault rifle.   It turned out to be a Bridgeport Task Force working undercover , they did not inform Fairfield Police they were working in the area.

Patch costs AOL about $150,000 per site, $160 million a year

Happenings NOW 8-15 thru 8-21

3:11pm–#Norwalk–Plank fire on the southbound side of the train tracks, trains do NOT have to be stopped for the firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

2:42pm–#Norwalk–Fire department on the way for a child locked in a car Panera Bread 596 Westport Ave.

At approximately 12:30pm the West Haven Fire Department responded to a report of smoke on the 1st and 7th floors of the VA Hospital at 950 Campbell Avenue. Units from all three West Haven Fire Companies responded to the fire scene. On arrival command reported smoke conditions on the 1st and then the 7th floor of Building 2. Searching floors 2 thru 6 the firefighters found a cooling unit had overheated and the smoke went through vents to the 7th and 1st floors. A secondary search of Building 2 found the building to be clear of smoke and fire. All fire companies were clear from the hospital by 2pm and there were no injuries reported.

2:00pm–#Fairfield–Woman attacked in front 224Roseville Street. Woman was heard screaming  by many neighbors , she is screaming for someone to get away from her. Police on scene calling for EMTs and fire department, she has a head injury.  EMTs have controlled the bleeding and helped her regain consciousness.    Fairfield Police tell me the incident was a domestic type between two females, they were arrested for Breach of Peace. One was thrown to the ground and sustained a head injury, she was transported to the hospital for treatment.

12:14am–#Milford–United Illuminated reporting 2,808 with out power in town.

11: 42– Ansoinia–Prindle Ave.  and a residence atLopresti Court water in the basement threatening electrical. Nothing yet for low lying areas of Ansonia.

10:59pm–Milford Fire and Police have their hands full with flooding conditions. Fire Dept. on the scene of 221 New Haven Ave. and says most of the buildings in this area should have water coming into the buildings the water is so high. Possible on person trapped in a basement because of flooding at another High Street call.  UPDATE–11:34–#Milford–More flooding calls trickling in…Car stuck in the water with occupants still in the car at Knob Hill Road. Two flooded basements with threatened electrical boxes and gas furnaces- Swanson Drive and Buckingham Ave.

Iowa man tries to lure teen and gets mom’s fist instead

(CBS/AP) DES MOINES, Iowa – A Des Moines man who allegedly tried to lure a young girl into an alley, wound up with stitches and a black eye after the girl’s mother took matters into her own hands, according to authorities.

“I got down to the alley and I confronted him. I said, ‘Why are you staring at the kids?’ and he looks at me and says, ‘I want to marry the red head.’ I came unglued at that point. I was like ‘Dude, she’s only 13 and that’s my daughter,'” Pullen told the station.  Read full story….
