Fairfield–Friday-7:45pm–Fire officials are placing a super absorbent pads into a catch basin that empties into Gould Manor after a white substance was found floating in it.  Firefighters conducted numerous tests but cannot identify the substance.  It is GUESSED that it could be  paint after someone cleaned a paint brush and the water went into a storm drain.  After absorbing as much of the material as they can, firefighters will use a containment type buoy to contain the substance to prevent it from entering the pond and contact the EPA.

An elderly local resident was arrested after police said she threw two kittens out of her car onto a busy roadway.

One of the kittens was killed.

Alana Feld of Feld Entertainment presented a check to Kathleen Maher, the Executive Director/Curator for the Barnum Museum. The donation of $10,000 is for the restoration and preservation of the Barnum Museum which was damaged from the tornado that struck the City of Bridgeport last year. This will help aid the museum in opening sooner than expected. Mayor Bill Finch was named Honorary Ringmaster. Bill Evans, Senior Meteorologist at WABC-TV was Honorary Chairman for the Barnum Museum Gala which was held earlier.

A jumbo sized luncheon for some really big guests in front of the Webster Bank Arena at Harboryard this afternoon. Kids and big kids were treated to get an up close view of these beautiful creatures not only eat but show off their artistic as well. The circus in town this weekend.

Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, the most wanted man in the world, has been killed, Libyan Prime Minister Mahmoud Jibril said today. The White House and NATO said they were unable to confirm reports of his death. He was accused of backing the 1986 bombing of a Berlin disco popular with American soldiers, reportedly funding the hijacking of the cruise ship Achille Lauro in 1985, and the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which resulted in the U.N. and United States imposing sanctions on Libya. For years, Gadhafi refused to take responsibility for the bombing, but that changed in 2003 when he acknowledged his role and tried to make amends.

1:41pm–#Ridgefield–#ctfire–Fire Department called for a structure fire on Florida Road, turns out to be a down power line with a smoke condition in the house. Fire department investigating.

#Fairfield–Police keeping busy, Unruly father at Black Rock Pediatrics. 2 women 1 male wanted for shoplifting at Victoria’s Secret and a house broken into at Surrey Lane detectives being sent to further investigate.

12:54–#Ridgefield–Roll over motor vehicle accident in front of the high school. The girl that rolled the car is being checked out in the nurses office. Fire/police on the way.

12:22pm–#Bridgeport –Burnt popcorn in the microwave in the teacher’s lounge at Longfellow School on Ocean Terrace activates the fire alarm and a fire drill for the school.

10:38pm–#cttraffic #Fairfield–Merritt Parkway Route 15 northbound between 42 and 44 car accident with possible injuries. This involves a state trooper and a 2nd party.

A Connecticut State Police Trooper was extricated from his cruiser while working at construction detail on just short of the 26 mile marker on the northbound side of the Merritt Parkway. Authorities say the trooper suffered non life threatening injuries. Both Westport and Fairfield Fire Departments aided in the extrication.

The Fairfield Police are attempting to identify the suspect in the photo. He is believed to be responsible for a larceny at the Pitt Center on Sacred Heart University campus.

laptop, cell phone, and sunglasses were taken from the Pit Center gym sometime between 1445
and 1530 hours on 10/17/11.

The student went to the Pit Center gym and placed her belongings in a storage cubby, when she
returned the back pack was missing. The items are valued at $1,200.

Sacred Heart Public Safety provided video surveillance footage of the theft taking place. The
suspect witnessed in the video is a white male, wearing a blue shirt and jeans with white sneakers
on, with black short hair and a black mustache wearing a necklace with a cross on it.

A truck filled with President Obama’s podiums and audio equipment was stolen in Henrico just days before his visit to Chesterfield Virginia. When you see President Obama speak, there is a pretty typical setup including the presidential seal on a podium, the see-thru Teleprompter and a portable sound system. Thieves saw the truck carrying that equipment and couldn’t resist the target. We confirmed an investigation with the U.S. Defense Department. There are still a lot of questions.   Read full story….

Rueben “Rubie” William Vine, 86, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, formerly of the New Haven, CT,  died on Oct. 11, 2011.  Rubie started his business career at the age of 9 with a New Haven Register paper route.  He continued his route until he enlisted in the Army during World War II.  He was wounded three times and captured at the Battle of the Bulge.   Once discharged from the Army, he sold pots, pans and other items door to door. He founded one of the first closeout stores, Railroad Salvage stores in New Haven in 1950 for which he became famous  starring in his own commercials:
