Devon Rotary Awards over $20,000 in Scholarships
#MILFORD, CT – The Devon Rotary Club held its annual Scholarship Awards breakfast on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at The Bridge House Restaurant. Fifteen (15) exceptional Milford students received the awards.
13 Scholarships are awarded by the Devon Rotary Trust Foundation each year totaling over $20,000. They are given to students in recognition of academic interest and achievement, and also for their service to their school or the community at large. The winners are selected by a committee of members from the Devon Rotary Foundation.
Mark McCormack and Mark Weston received the Excello Tools of the Trade Awards Scholarship. Jeremy Doucette and Aubrey Bepko received the William Duncan Devon Rotary Knights Scholarship. Haley Palmer received the Steven G Memorial Scholarship. Marissa Prizio received the Orange Ale House Duke Scholarship. Sofya Calvin received the Bridge House Foundation Scholarship. Shaina Arsenault received the Robert Boughton Memorial Scholarship. Mariah Provenzo received the Emma McDonough Memorial Scholarship. Erin Jackson received the Bridge House Dodie Ireland Memorial Scholarship. Emily Fetter received the Stanford Family Scholarship. Michaela Smith received the Barbara Burwell Gaynor Memorial Award Scholarship. Kelsey Kopazna received the John D. Gaynor Memorial Scholarship. Raven Grant received the Joyce G Memorial Scholarship. Police are looking for a white or Hispanic male wearing a dark colored Starter jacket with gray sleeves, black shorts, white socks and black sneakers, hr is also wearing a baseball cap. SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER BRIDGEPORT LEARNING CENTER
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Special Education teacher is responsible for developing plans for students, managing the classroom environment, providing students with instruction, and assessing students’ knowledge, needs, abilities and progress. Responsible when appropriate, for planning and producing presentations which exhibit student work, talent, and/or athletic skills. The Special Education teacher assumes responsibility for the development of the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and consults with necessary school personnel to provide appropriate modifications and accommodations as mandated by the student’s IEP.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates comprehensive and current knowledge of subject taught.
- Demonstrates knowledge of human growth and development as it relates to the learning/teaching process
- Demonstrates an awareness and respect for diversity of cultural backgrounds and lifestyles
- Identifies and sequences goals, objectives, strategies, and assessments, which provide for individual differences
- Plans and implements the elements of an effective lesson design and develops lesson plans, which incorporate technology and instructional aids appropriate for instruction
- Aligns assessment with instructional objectives on the basis of the formative assessment
- Monitors student progress and adjusts instruction on the basis of student questions and performance
- Communicates with students both individually and collectively about their needs and progress
- Maintains high expectations for student learning and behavior
- Maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment by consistently implementing routines, transitions, and procedures
- Demonstrated knowledge of national, state, and local standards
- Proficient and consistent with use of data to inform instruction
- Develops and maintains systems for keeping group and individual records
- Establishes rapport and fosters positive reinforcement
REQUIREMENTS:
- Connecticut teaching certification (065, 165, or 265) Comprehensive Special Education K-12 or PK-12; Master’s degree preferred
- Experience working with students with emotional needs
- Three years’ successful teaching experience in an urban setting preferred
- Experience in the use of educational technology
- Demonstrates responsibility for self-growth, professional improvement, ongoing self-reflection or self-evaluation
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
