Elicit will be playing DISNEY movies begginning at 1 pm in their Speakeasy area for children and families to enjoy at no additional cost. Spectators are welcome to join for free and an area for donations will be made available.

Jeff DeNitto is a 25 year member of the Fairfield Fire Department. His 31 year old daughter, Alexa is fighting cancer as a single mother of a 3 year old. The FFFCF is proud to support our brother and his family as they begin their journey. Funds will help to cover medical costs, meals, travel, and child care. 

Tim Firla is an 18 year member of the Fairfield Fire Department. His wife Marissa, is currently undergoing treatments for stage 4 colon cancer, which has spread to her liver. The couple has two children. Marissa has been fighting since Labor Day 2023. She has undergone 5 surgeries and spent a month in the hospital recovering. She has completed 12 of the necessary 16 chemo treatments. Funds will help to cover medical expenses, meals, travel and other unforeseen expenses.

Structure Fire

Bridgeport Fire Department said in a statement that they were dispatched at 8:20 pm to a structure fire at 48 Alpine St. Heavy fire was encountered on all 3 floors of a 2 ½ story wood frame. The fire was placed under control at 11:35 pm after an extensive overhaul of the building. No civilian injuries were reported at this time, and one firefighter was transported to the hospital for evaluation for non-life-threatening injuries. Red Cross is relocating 2 adults and 3 children. The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire.

Organized Retail Theft Suspects Arrested at Milford Marshalls; Over $2,000 in Stolen Merchandise Recovered

On August 27th, 2024, Milford Police received information that individuals from an organized retail theft group were believed to be at the Marshalls located at 1413 Boston Post Road. Officers made contact with Marshalls’ loss prevention employees via phone, who relayed that they had been investigating an organized retail theft group driving a black Honda CRV. This group had been suspects in numerous thefts from Marshalls, Burlington, and TJX stores across New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.

Officers responded to the area and ultimately took Carlos Cueva Arias, 37, and Jenifer Salines, 27, both of Paterson, NJ, into custody. They located a large quantity of suspected stolen merchandise in the vehicle, which was seized. A total of 119 items, valued at $2,390.82, were recovered in this incident alone.

Both Cueva and Salines were charged with Larceny 3rd Degree, Conspiracy to Commit Larceny 3rd Degree, and Possession of a Shoplifting Device. Additionally, Salines was charged with Interfering with an Officer. A $5,000 bond was placed on both individuals, and they were transported to Milford Court on August 28th, 2024. The investigation is ongoing.

Two Suspects Arrested in Early Morning Burglary at Bridgeport Roofing Supply; Stolen Vehicle Recovered

On August 29, 2024, at approximately 2:57 AM, Bridgeport Police patrol units responded to a reported burglary in progress at Beacon Roofing Supply on 1730 Commerce Drive. The alarm company, Comp Tech – Logic Communications, reported that three suspects—two males and one female—were actively attempting to steal materials from the property. Video surveillance showed the suspects passing items over a fence. Upon arrival, patrol units observed the suspects trying to secure stolen items in the back seat of a grey 2012 Hyundai Elantra, later determined to be stolen from Bridgeport on August 26, 2024.

The suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by officers. Inside the Hyundai Elantra, officers found 17 bundles of roofing shingles valued at $731, which were returned to Beacon Roofing Supply. Two of the three suspects were apprehended at the scene, while the third suspect managed to escape.

This business has been burglarized several times over the past few months, and the officers involved were commended for their successful apprehension of the suspects.

The suspects were identified as Jose A. Velasco and Stacey Velez, both from Connecticut. Velasco was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree, larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense), larceny in the fifth degree, and interfering with an officer, with a bond set at $10,000. Velez was charged with criminal trespass in the second degree, larceny of a motor vehicle (first offense), and larceny in the fifth degree.

Bridgeport News: Driver Arrested After Police Find Marijuana, Ghost Gun During Traffic Stop

On August 29, 2024, officers stopped a vehicle at State Street and West Avenue due to an equipment issue. They found that the driver, Brian Figueiredo Silva, was operating the vehicle with an expired license. During the vehicle inspection, officers discovered a significant amount of marijuana, THC cartridges, and a firearm with an extended magazine. The firearm had no serial number, commonly referred to as a ghost gun. Silva was already subject to a protective order that prohibited him from owning or possessing a firearm, and he did not have a pistol permit. He was arrested and charged with several offenses, including possession with intent to sell, carrying a firearm without a permit, and violating a protective order. Additionally, Silva received infractions for driving with tinted windows, without a valid license, and without proof of insurance. His bond was set at $75,000.
