This vehicle was reported to be involved in an armed robbery in Trumbull, CT during which a firearm was reported to have been displayed. The suspect vehicle was initially spotted and briefly pursued by the Trumbull Police Department. It was last seen southbound on Interstate 95 near Exit 23. Shortly thereafter, a Westport officer observed the suspect vehicle traveling westbound on Greens Farms Road. It continued toward Bridge Street where Westport officers successfully deployed stop sticks. The vehicle continued, disregarding officers’ signal to stop and proceeded toward Saugatuck Avenue where further pursuit was terminated due to the recklessness of the operator. The suspect vehicle then continued southbound on Saugatuck Avenue, at times traveling southbound in the northbound lane of travel. The suspect vehicle ultimately struck another uninvolved motorist on Saugatuck Avenue at the intersection of Duck Pond Road and sustained disabling damage. The three occupants fled the vehicle.

With the assistance of Norwalk Police and the Connecticut State Police, a perimeter was established, and two suspects were quickly located in the immediate vicinity. A third suspect was also located after a further search. Saugatuck Avenue was closed for a brief period while officers investigated the motor vehicle crash. An eyewitness also reported that the occupants were observed discarding items from the vehicle while traveling south on Saugatuck Avenue. An area search was conducted, and a firearm was recovered.

The operator of the struck motor vehicle was transported to Norwalk Hospital with minor injuries. The operator of the suspect vehicle was issued a misdemeanor summons and charged with failure to drive right, reckless operation and engaging police in pursuit. All three suspects were juveniles. They were turned over to the custody of Trumbull Police to be charged in connection with the original incident.

Police activity has ceased in the area. All three involved parties were located and there is no threat to the public at this time. For further inquiries related to the incident, please contact the Trumbull Police Department.

GOVERNOR LAMONT DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY IN RESPONSE TO SEVERE FLOODING

(HARTFORD, CT) – Governor Ned Lamont today announced that he has declared a state of emergency in response to the significant flooding that is impacting portions of Connecticut due to the historically severe rainfall that began yesterday afternoon and has caused extensive structural damage to roadways.

“The sudden and severe flooding has caused significant damage to infrastructure in the western portion of the state, resulting in evacuations, rescues, and more than two dozen road closures that we anticipate will need to be closed for an extended period,” Governor Lamont said. “This emergency declaration may help expedite some of the resources needed for us to respond to this situation, and in particular can help prioritize potential federal resources such as equipment and work crews that can assist state and local crews with repairing infrastructure damage. I strongly encourage anyone in the western area of the state to stay alert for updates before traveling and do not attempt to drive through any flooded roads.”

Governor Lamont and the state’s emergency management team have been leading unified command calls with state and municipal officials and other partners to lead coordinated response to the storm. The Connecticut Emergency Operations Center has been in enhanced monitoring mode since Sunday afternoon and will remain active throughout the duration of this weather event.

Municipal officials in the impacted areas are strongly advised to continue coordinating with their assigned regional coordinators from the Connecticut Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security on any requests for assistance.
