9:09pm–#Fairfield CT– A man in his twenties was punched and robbed on Lisbon Drive. The victim said the the two white males both in their twenties with beards implied they had a gun, ran down the street and got into a white car and fled towards Lake Mohegan.
Bridgeport, Conn. (May 3, 2015) – Bridgeport Police have arrested Efrain Rivera, 723 Ogden St. He is being charged with Murder, Criminal Attempt at Murder and Assault in the First Degree.
Shortly after 1:00 a.m.Sunday morning, Miguel Martinez and his brother, Jose Martinez both of East Main Street, went to 723 Ogden Street to confront Rivera about threats he allegedly made against them. An altercation ensued and Rivera shot both Martinez brothers.
Miguel was taken to Bridgeport Hospital by ambulance where he died. Jose was shot in the shoulder and was taken to Saint Vincent’s Hospital. He will survive his injuries.
Rivera was arrested and confessed to the shooting. He is charged with Murder, Criminal Attempt at Murder, and Assault in the First Degree. He is being held on a $1 million bond.
“Thanks to the prompt attention of both our patrol unit and our detective bureau, we were able to quickly apprehend the suspect,” said Assistant Chief James Nardozzi. “This is a tragic result from a personal dispute.”
Overall, violence and property crime continue go down in Bridgeport. In 2014, Bridgeport experienced a 3.6 percent reduction in violent crime and a 4.9 percent drop in property crime compared to 2013, according to statistics compiled for the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. In all, violent crime in Bridgeport is down by 30 percent since 2001. And, so far in 2015, violent crime has gone down by almost 16 percent compared to the first three months of 2014.
2:15pm–#cttraffic–#Easton CT–Reports of a brush fire on Route 58 near Den Road. Second tone for volunteer firefighters to the scene. I’m sure this will slow traffic.
2:57am–UPDATE: One arrested according to radio reports.
2:35am–#Bridgeport CT–Its definitely a full moon a detective called in a stabbing victim just showed up to St. Vincent’s Hospital stabbed or slashed in the hand. Then a patrol officer immediately called for back up to the hospital.
UPDATE: Miguel Martinez was shot by Efrain Rivera. Martinez was rushed to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police also say he shot Martinez’s brother, Jose Martinez, in the shoulder. Witness say this stems from an earlier argument around 8:30pm. Rivera is being held on $1 million bond.
1:35am–#Bridgeport CT–Police are investigating a shooting in the 600 block of Ogden Street near Hallett Street. One person was shot in the shoulder, another much more serious, radio reports say he was shot twice and in trauma but no word on where he was shot. I can usually piece together an initial report from what witnesses tell me but this one has conflicting reports. Detectives were just arriving when I left the scene, as soon as I get official word from police I will let you know. That’s part of the problem of being the first on the scene but I know you want to know right away. And hey, no expensive cable subscriptions, the breaking news as it is breaking delivered to your phone!
11:22pm–#Bridgeport CT–Firefighters were dispatched to the 900 block of Capital Avenue for what turned out to be a shed fire that was out upon their arrival. They made sure the fire was out and did not extend anywhere else.
8:34pm–#Bridgeport CT–Report of a pedestrian hit with a possible broken leg at Reservior and Rita/Woodlawn Avenue. Also a report of an accident at North Avenue and Island Brook blocking traffic.
