Bridgeport News: Child Hit By Car

9:25am–#Bridgeport CT–It was a wild scene on Salem Street and through the backyards near St. Vincent’s Hospital tonight. A mini van appeared to have sideswiped a sedan at the intersection of Salem and Anson Street. The minivan continued through the parking lot an into the backyards of about 3-4 houses. The minvan hit parked car and did not stop until hit hit a house at Salem and Marion Street. There were three children in the minvan, one was ejected from the van. Witnesses told me the man fled the scene on foot with the two other children. He tried to get the other child but bystanders would not let him leave with the child. Witnesses said his name was Carlos and works for St. Vincent’s Hospital. The child was transported by ambulance code two which means it is NOT life threatening injuries. The owner of the house that was hit said it was so loud and so sudden even her dog didn’t bark at the commotion. The home sustained significant damage to the porch and possibly even to the foundation. The building inspector was called to the scene.  The van just missed hitting three propane tanks.

The crash continued into the backyards of Salem Street where the van lost its bumper hitting the sedan and pulled off by off roading.

 

The minvan finally is stopped after hitting a house at Salem and Marion Street.

Bridgeport News: Drive By Shooting

UPDATE: Detectives reporting it did not involve a white Honda. Police have some solid leads with the suspect identified and they are very familiar with him.

7:55pm–#Bridgeport CT–A person was just shot by a drive by shooting on Park and Shelton Street.  Police are looking for an older white Honda that fled towards Boston Avenue.

Easton Drug Ring Broken Up

Easton CT–#Fairfield CT–On Wednesday, May 20th Fairfield Police arrested two Easton residence after executing multiple search and seizure warrants where hundreds of pain medications pills, mainly Oxycodone were seized in a lengthily investigation of prescription distribution operations in Fairfield.  Police arrested Curtis and Joann Pistey of 51 Adams Road in Easton, police seized over 750 assorted DEA controlled narcotics and over $5,000 in cash.  The pills had a street value of about $30,000.

Bridgeport, Conn. (May 22, 2015) – This Memorial Day weekend the Bridgeport Police Department will be increasing traffic enforcement given the high volume of travel expected over the holiday.

 

“Police will be out in full force this weekend,” said Police Chief Joseph Gaudett Jr. “The increased traffic combined with the holiday means the department will be extra vigilant to keep the people of Bridgeport safe.”

 

AAA predicts that 37.2 million Americans will travel more than 50 miles from home this weekend, with 31.3 million expected to drive, a 5.3 percent increase over the previous year.

 

“The Park City is dedicated to keeping Bridgeport kids and families safe and secure,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “We’re focused on building a city that is more walkable, which makes pedestrian safety an even greater priority for our city. That’s why the efforts of the Bridgeport Police Department to crack down on dangerous driving this busy weekend is so important. Thanks to the hardworking police officers for helping to make Bridgeport a safer, better place to live.”

 

The Bridgeport Police Traffic Division is also in the middle of the ‘Click It Or Ticket’ (CIOT) Enforcement Campaign. The campaign runs from May 18th through May 31st. Funds are being made available through the State Of Connecticut Dept of Transportation to cover the cost of the additional deployments.

 

“This campaign is about saving lives,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “Our officers, along with departments around the state, are working hard to keep people safe.”

 

On just the first day of the ‘Click It Or Ticket’ campaign the Bridgeport Traffic Division issued 57 seat belt tickets and cited motorists for an additional 14 violations.

 

“We need to increase enforcement and crack down on those who don’t wear their seat belts to help prevent crash fatalities,”  said Chief Gaudett.

Bridgeport News: Roberts Street Rollover

1:43pm–#Bridgeport CT–Police investigate this one car rollover on Roberts Street.  Firefighters were called because it was thought the woman was trapped in the car.  Firefighters said local neighbors helped her out of the vehicle.   Firefighters tell me she was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
