#Bridgeport, Conn. (July 10, 2015 press release) – An employee at a Boston Avenue CVS was charged with assaulting a 56-year-old customer following a dispute.
Christopher Frank Jr., 27, of Oxford Street, was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace.
The two argued in the store and Frank came from behind the counter and assaulted the victim.
#Bridgeport CT–I had a chance to visit Eva’s All Things Greek a couple of times in the last month. They are located at 3783 Main Street in Bridgeport (across the street from Optimum and CVS). The food is outstanding, everything fresh and made to order. What really impressed me the most was when I was in the kitchen there are no fryolotrs. The owner George told me that they don’t like to use them opting for pan frying in fresher oil. Mixing french fried potatoes on one order and then frying seafood on another order and before you know it this mixing changes the taste of the food. George’s wife Eva assists in cooking and is such a joy in the front end as host/waitress. I love her quick wit and charm.
The food is authentic Greek along with desserts and products for sale from Greece. Enjoy a freshly brewed Greek style coffee. Enjoy the many homemade desserts. As I mentioned to George in the video he could easily cut the generous portions by a third and no one would notice. If you want the best Greek food you have visit them. Prices are not that expensive either. Dress is casual. Enjoy!

Bridgeport, Conn. (July 9, 2015 Press Release) – Mayor Bill Finch welcomed baseball legend Cal Ripken Jr. to Bridgeport for a community celebration of three new baseball fields at Blackham School in the city’s North End.
“The Cal Ripken Sr. foundation truly is changing lives – really, saving lives – through this program,” said Mayor Bill Finch. “These fields mean the world not only to the North End Little League and to the kids here who attend Blackham School but to the entire Bridgeport community. We couldn’t me more grateful.”
On Thursday, the hall-of-famer and Mayor Finch officially dedicated the Thorme Street community complex. The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation has built 58 fields since 2010. Ripken fields are located from Washington State to Texas to Florida to Maine. Six of the Youth Development Parks are in Bridgeport. Baltimore, where Ripken Jr. played his entire career, has five.
“As we go through life and building these fields, there are certain people that get it,” Ripken Jr. said. “And when I say “get it” I mean they instantly understand the value of these parks and programs that help these kids, and they value the importance of keeping them moving in a positive direction. Mayor Finch is certainly one of those guys that “get it.”
Steve Salem, the president of the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, said there is a reason Bridgeport has benefitted from so many parks, which each cost between $1 million and $1.5 million. Salem described Mayor Finch as “without a doubt, our number one guy across the country when it comes to getting these parks done.”
The new fields at Blackham School include the same synthetic turf used in professional baseball stadiums as well as new dugouts, scoreboards and backstops. The complex hosts three ball fields, including an all-inclusive field that will accommodate kids with special needs. Better drainage on the turf will translate to more time playing and less down time for kids.
“North End Little League has been the heart and soul of the North End community,” said City Council President Tom McCarthy, who serves the 133rd District. “We’re excited to contribute to this organization that has meant so much to the kids of this neighborhood. But this is more than that. These fields are for everyone in the North End.” Construction was ongoing throughout the winter. Jorge Garcia, the director of Public Facilities, said crews worked through sub-freezing temperatures and occasional frozen engine blocks and complete the project on scheduled. The park was ready for opening day.
Mayor Finch said Councilwomen Michelle Lyons and AmyMarie Vizzo-Paniccia, who represent the 134th District, were instrumental in advocating for the project and seeing it through. After the ceremonial ribbon cutting, Ripken got down to business and did some soft toss pitching to kids at the school. “This really is a day that these kids will never forget – and probably a lot of the grownups here too,” said Mayor Finch. “How many kids in this world can say they got a hit off of Cal Ripken Jr? We in Bridgeport are so grateful to him and the foundation.”

The radio reports say the man was dropped off by three Hispanic woman who said they did not know him. He was reported to be shot at Main and Capital Avenue. Police did get a plate number from the vehicle that dropped the man off which came back to the Hollow section of town. Police are investigating.
