The Bridgeport Police Department arrested a suspect in connection to a number of burglaries in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Conn.
On September 18, 2015 at around 1:00 p.m., police officers responded to a call about a suspicious person in the area of Livingston St. and
Police officers followed Nieves and located him on Bennett St. and began a foot pursuit. Officers chased Nieves to Fairfield Ave. and then across the street to Jetland Place Supporting officers caught up to Nieves at the rear driveway of St. Ann’s School on Jetland St. Police officers ordered Nieves to stop several times and he refused. A police officer then deployed his Taser and Nieves was taken into custody. Nieves stated he ran from police officers because he had illegal pills on him. He stated that he swallowed approximately 10 unknown pills and had used cocaine earlier in the day. Nieves was transported by ambulance to Bridgeport Hospital.
Following the arrest of Nieves, Bridgeport Police Department received a call reporting that Nieves had broken into a home that afternoon. Police officers responded to Courtland Ave. near the corner of Montgomery St. to meet the witness. The witness stated that at approximately 1:00 p.m. on September 18, 2015 she was walking down the third floor stairs when she heard someone running down the second floor stairs. The witness was concerned because she knows the second floor neighbors are not home during the day. The witness stated that she walked out onto the second floor porch and observed a Hispanic male with blue shorts and a blue basketball jersey with the #15 and the name “Carter” on the back get on a dark colored bike on the front lawn and quickly rode off. The witness recognized the suspect as Nieves. The witness stated that she did not believe anything was taken and that Nieves was trying to enter the second floor residence when she interrupted him.
Nieves was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, breach of peace, and interfering with a police officer/resisting arrest. Bond was set at $10,000.
