Bridgeport News: Mother/Child Hit By Truck Mom Dies

 

#BRIDGEPORT – Bridgeport Police released the following information regarding a fatal accident involving two pedestrians in downtown Bridgeport:

On Jan 11, 2016 at 1530 hrs 2 pedestrians, a 41 year old female and her 9 year old son were struck by a GMC pickup truck while crossing John St near the intersection of West Avenue.  The female, identified as Carmen Martinez of Fairfield Ave was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital where she died of her injuries. Her son (name withheld) was transported to Bridgeport Hospital and was transferred to Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital for treatment of internal trauma. Family notified.

The operator of the truck, Joseph Frazier, 70, of Berkley, MA remained at the scene and was not injured.

Traffic Division Serious Crash Investigation Team members Sgt. Thomas Minar, PO John Perry, PO Michael Falbo responded and are conducting the investigation. Capt Robert Evans was the at scene supervisor.

No arrests at this time, investigation continuing.

 

UPDATE: Police say Carmen Martinez, 41 of Fairfield Avenue died from her injuries in the crash.  Her 9 year old son is in very critical condition at Yale New Haven Hospital.  The driver, Joseph Frazier, 70 of Berkley Massachusetts who struck the two with his GMC pick up truck remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

UPDATE: I’m so sorry to report that police confirmed that mother has passed away from her injuries her son was airlifted to Yale New Haven Hospital.  The driver of the pick up truck stopped and is cooperating with police.  No charges have been filed at this time.

3:42pm–#Bridgeport CT– Police said mother and child was hit by a truck at the intersection of West and John Street.  Police were on scene taking measurements and the roadway is closed for the investigation.  No word on the condition of the victims.

Bridgeport News: Shooting Locks Down/In 3 Schools

UPDATE: Police say one person was shot and transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital.

11:02am–#Bridgeport CT– A shooting at Columbia and Ridge Avenue has locked down Roosevelt, Charter Oak School and the Military Academy out of an abundance of caution.  A black male in a black hoodie was seen running through the playground between buildings 15 and 16.  Police have found shell casings.  It is unknown at this time if anyone was hit, the police spokesperson is verifying.  As soon as I know I will update this thread.

Trumbull News: Attempted Break In

10:00am–#Trumbull CT–A resident heard someone running down the back stairs in her home in the 1900 block of Old Town Road and she called police (near Cumberland Drive).  Police found an open back door pried open.  They checked the residence but found no one.  Bridgeport Police also notified.  K-9 dispatched, expect to see a police presence in the area.
