12:48pm–#Southport CT–#Fairfield CT– A down tree in the 1200 block of Pequot Avenue has also damaged two utility poles. Street is blocked and power is out in the area.

12:25pm–#Fairfield CT– A number of power issues just reported in Fairfield. A burning utility pole in front of 180 Sturges Road. Also, a blown transformer at Jennings and Lovers Lane. Power is reported out in both areas. A tree and Wires down at 223 Grandview Road. Fire sparks from a utility polie at Burr and Brookside Drive. Downed wires in the road arching at 1010 Catamont Road.

9:44pm–#Bridgeport CT– A resident in the 600 block of Cleveland Avenue came home to find their home broken in to. Police are investigating. Third break in Bridgeport, two in Easton today.

Appropriate Imagery For Elementary School Children?
I had a viewer send in this photo upset that the imagery of a clinched fist is supportive of what they saw at the Super Bowl Black Power by Beyonce and the “negative imagery of the past”. The viewer felt the image is too negative for elementary school children and “sends the wrong message to the young minds”. What do you think?
Bridgeport News: Senator Gomes Calls for Fair Chance Employment
HARTFORD, CT – Today, Senator Ed Gomes (D-Bridgeport) joined advocates in support of House Bill 5237: An Act Concerning Fair Chance Employment. The bill is a set of hiring policies for private employers, designed to ensure that applicants with criminal records are evaluated on the merits of their qualifications, not on their criminal records.
“We have too many hard-working people trying to find jobs that are being disqualified,” said Sen. Gomes. “We need to give everyone that is looking for a job a fair shot. I will continue to fight for an employment system that is fair to all our communities.”
The bill would incorporate “ban the box” policies, which remove the criminal history question from job applications and postpone the background check until a conditional offer is made by the employer. The bill would also require employers to take into account the age of the offense when making hiring decisions.
Research shows that once an employer has examined the qualifications of a job applicant, the applicant is more likely to be hired.
Seven states, including Massachusetts and Rhode Island, have extended fair hiring practices to private employers.
HB 5237 is currently before the Labor and Public Employees Committee
Easton News: 2 House Break Ins Reported
3:00pm–#Easton CT– Homeowners on Pond Road and Morning Glory Driver are reporting break ins to their homes. The homeowner on Pond Road said she was in the house at the time the suspect was in her home according to radio reports. Police are on the scene.
