Fairfield Fire Department is unveiling a new fire truck at Station 2 on Jennings Road. The new truck, a 2017 Spartan/Marion, to be exact, comes with the “latest and greatest” features, says Lieutenant Kevin Polcer. The new Engine 2 contains numerous safety features, such as “full frontal airbags…and side protection”, which comes with most modern vehicles. The new engine also has “anti-lock breaks on all four wheels”. The new engine comes equipped with all LED lighting, a 1,500-gallon water tank, and a 75-gallon foam tank in order to make “foam on the fly”. The Marion is also eco-friendly, taking diesel exhaust fluid, or D.E.F., so “the emissions from this truck are a lot less than a truck 10 years ago”. The body of the new truck is constructed with stainless steel to help with corrosion prevention to lengthen the life span of the engine. Also with the new truck comes new Motorola mobile radios and iPads, which are used along with their dispatch system. The iPads give them a map with address numbers and hydrant locations throughout the town of Fairfield. This engine was ushered in to replace an “aging engine that had many miles on it, and needed to be replaced”. So, sleep easy tonight, knowing that your home is safe from the flames that may harm it.

Fatal Crash After Police Pursuit
UPDATE: Police say the Jervon Winston, 22, of Brooklyn, New York was the driver of the car who died in this accident. He was not wearing a seatbelt. Police confirmed our report that he did not negotiate the curve of the ramp, and went straight down an embankment into a tree.
UPDATE: A state police accident summary said the 2015 Chrysler 200 involved in the crash is owned by Ari Rent a Car in Linden, N.J. The driver has not been identified. My sources told me the car was stolen and the driver had no identification on him.
11:17pm–#Stratford CT–#Trumbull Ct– #Fairfield CT– An off duty state trooper was struck by a car on Barnum Avenue Cutoff. She called 911 and spoke to Stratford Avenue Police that she was involved in a hit and run accident. A short time later Trumbull Police reported being in pursuit of that vehicle on the Merritt Parkway southbound. At 11:25 they reported the car had crashed at exit 46 which is just before the rest area in Fairfield and that it was possibly a fatality. Radio reports at 11:39 said it was, in fact, a DOA (dead on arrival) and the contact the medical examiner. EMS left the scene without a patient. The off duty trooper reported that there were three other individuals in the car but were nowhere to be found at the scene. Fairfield Police had their K-9 on the scene but had no track. It is speculated that they possibly were dropped off prior to the pursuit. This is breaking news and this report has not been confirmed by any official source.
