Stratford News: Possible Fatality In Fiery Crash

Police UPDATE: On Saturday night at 23:22 officers responded to a two vehicle car crash at the intersection of Nichols Avenue and Lincoln St. Upon arrival Officers found a male trapped in a vehicle that was on fire. attempts to extricate him were unsuccessful. A 51-year-old male was pronounced deceased. The operator of the other vehicle (52-year-old male) was transported to Bridgeport Hospital with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing. (No names have been released at this time).

11:45PMish–#Stratford CT–Stratford Police are investigating a possible fatal accident on Nichols Avenue near Greenfield Avenue. A pick-up truck went through the fence almost hitting a house. The other car, a small compact came to a rest across the street and burst into flames. You can see by video from Ashley Ainsworth that bystanders heroically tried to gain entry into the car to free the driver. People even lifted realty sign to try and smash the window open. Firefighters had to extricated victims from both vehicles at the same time. There was no official word on the extent of the injuries.

6:50pm–#Fairfield CT– Tonight’s vehicle was hosted by Fairfield on Commerce Drive on the I-95 off-ramp at Coolidge Drive. Firefighters had the Toyota out in minutes upon arrival.

Westport News: Motorized Wheel Chair and Car Collide

(Westport, CT) On 12/13/2018 at approximately 6:00pm, officers were dispatched to the area of 1700 Post Road East on a complaint of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident. Upon arrival, it was determined the pedestrian was riding a motorized wheelchair at the time of the collision. The incident required temporary closure of Post Road East at that location while officers, Westport Fire and Westport Emergency Medical Services were on scene. The pedestrian, a 57-year-old male from Westport, was transported to Norwalk Hospital with serious injuries. The operator of the vehicle was not injured during the incident and cooperative with investigators.

A preliminary investigation showed that this was a fairly slow speed collision that occurred while the struck party was attempting to navigate across Post Road East and may not have been using the nearby crosswalk while doing so. The incident remains under investigation. We urge all drivers to use extra caution and drive slowly during this busy holiday season. We also ask pedestrians to utilize marked crosswalks and the crossing signals at those locations. City of Bridgeport Issues Directive on Handling of Scrap Metal

Bridgeport, CT – Mayor Joe Ganim today has announced that City of Bridgeport Director of Public Facilities, John Ricci has issued a directive on “Scrap Metal and all other Material and Property from City Projects and Cleanups.” This directive is an additional measure taken by the city government to prevent the mishandling or misappropriation of city property.

“It has come to light that we may have inherited past practices that are unacceptable with this administration and are not in compliance with this directive,” said Mayor Ganim. “This directive will clarify and eliminate any actions that may be contrary to proper procedure.

Anything short of full compliance with this directive going forward will be subject to disciplinary actions, as we continue to review past practices. Any employee found in violation will be subject to immediate disciplinary action.”
