3 Youths and 3 Firearms Recovered After Pursit

BRIDGEPORT, CT — January 15th, 2019) Bridgeport police arrested three juveniles and seized three guns following a police chase that ended with a crash on Berkshire Avenue around 7 PM Tuesday, say police. The car was wanted in connection with a case of shots fired in Bridgeport Monday, investigator says. (Bridgeport Police Statement)

UPDATE: The suspects crashed at Noble and Crescent Street. Police have two in custody and recovered two firearms.

7:03pm–#Bridgeport CT– A car wanted into shots fired incident yesterday was spotted by Bridgeport Police who engaged them in pursuit on Route 8/25 and got on I-95 northbound. Bridgeport Police broke off the pursuit but state police picked it up. They exited the Seaview Avenue and worked their way to Boston Avenue.

#Bridgeport CT– On January 14, 2019, Razzie Hancock was stabbed in the chest at 136 Bishop Avenue and died as a result of his injuries. Detectives quickly identified a suspect and Detective Winkler applied for an arrest warrant that was signed by a Superior Court judge today. This evening Kenyon Gay (12/10/77) of Bridgeport and West Haven was arrested and charged with Murder, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon and Assault 2nd Degree. Bond is $1,000,000. Excellent police work by the patrol division and detectives led to the quick apprehension of Gay. (Bridgeport Police Press Release)

6:15pm–1/14/19–#Bridgeport CT– Police say Razzie Hancock, 39 was involved in a altercation inside 136 Bishop Avenue. He left the premises and collapsed on the sidewalk nearby. A witness called 911 and the victim was located by police. He was transported to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Detectives are processing the scene and are asking anyone with information to call Detective Winkler at 203-581- 5244 or the Bridgeport Police Tips Line at 203-576-8477.

Shakespeare Theater: Alarms & Sprinkler Did Not Activate

#Stratford CT– Monday the city of Stratford held a press conference to address the fire at the Shakespeare Theater early Sunday morning. Fire Chief Robert McGrath said the first 911 call came in at 0049 hours or approximately ten of 1am. Police were first on the scene within minutes and report the structure was fully engulfed. The chief said the first arriving units reported heavy fire throughout the structure. Firefighters also had to contend with burning embers starting fires in the trees and marsh area. Fire Marshal Brian Lampart said his department has taken the lead in the investigation but that he has also called in the Connecticut State for their assistance “just so we don’t miss anything” said Lampart. Lampart said this is a complex investigation due to the size of it but that it is a science and that they are going to take their time and do it carefully.

The town attorney in 2005 addressed the concerns of a developer coming in to take over the property and he said the town received the parcel from the state of Connecticut. He said there are numerous restrictions for recreation and entertainment purposes in perpetuity, that is no fixed maturity date.

Police Chief Joseph McNeil said there was no one living or squatting but there was constant vandalism. The property was inspected last week for some forcible entry issues. Some loose doors were discovered but no open doors to the property. No one made entry into the building that they know of.

Fire Marshal Brian Lampart said that there was electricity to the property, that there was an alarm system that did not sound and a sprinkler system that did not appear to have functioned. He said that the system needs to be traced back to the original source to make that determination. Lampart said some sprinkler systems are designed to control fires and other to allow people to escape the building. He did not know which system was installed at this time. Lampart said that the State Fire Marshal walked the property but did not hit on any accelerants but this is early on in the investigation.

Mayor Laura Hoydick said the process is first the investigation, then they will keep the town council appraised of the discoveries and that they would be the ultimate decision-makers on how to move forward. Hoydick emphasized that with all things they do they will have community involvement like they have with Center School and Center School Properties.

6:40PMish–Police are investigating the city’s first homicide after a double stabbing near Connecticut and Bishop Avenue. The victim collapsed at the intersection but police say there was an extensive blood trail and a large area of Bishop Avenue is taped off as a crime scene. The victim was pronounced at the hospital at around 7:36pm according to police.

K-9 is in the area searching for the suspects. Firefighters were called to take care of the fluid spill from the vehicles. No reported injuries.
