STRATFORD- A ceremony will be held for the dedication of Gunther’s Long Beach West at 10:00am on Monday, April 1, 2019.
The section of Long Beach was named after the late State Senator George “Doc” Gunther, a noted conservationist who served as State Senator from 1966- 2006. The new name was assigned to the area by action of the Town Council in June of 2018.
Gunther’s family will be on hand for the ceremony and dedication and will receive a presentation from Mayor Laura R. Hoydick on behalf of the Town of Stratford in appreciation for the many years of dedicated service he gave.

Bridgeport, CT – The City of Bridgeport’s Planning Department has completed a draft of “Plan Bridgeport,” the city’s ten-year master plan for conservation and development. The Plan Bridgeport project kicked off in June 2018 with four months of community outreach that included over 1,600 members of the Bridgeport community. After another four months of aggregating all community and stakeholder feedback a written draft of the Plan has been submitted for approval to the City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission.
Plan Bridgeport establishes a vision for the next decade that includes Bridgeport’s equitable development, its economic and social health, and its quality of life. The Plan provides a foundation for policy and funding decisions and informs the City’s zoning regulations for the next ten years and beyond. This master plan is updated every ten years in accordance to State statute.
The Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) will hold public hearings on both March 25, 2019 and April 22, 2019. All members of the public are welcome to share comments about Plan Bridgeport at these public hearings. Joe Gresko (D-121st), held a press conference at Fairfield’s Penfield Pavilion overlooking the Long Island Sound on Monday, March 25, 2019 to announce the release of the completed draft of the Long Island Sound “Blue Plan” (www.ct.gov/deep/lisblueplan) and the commencement of a 90-day public comment period.
The Blue Plan, legislation created through Public Act 15-66, enables a process by which Connecticut can develop a marine spatial bathymetry plan to protect Long Island Sound’s natural resources and traditional human uses while allowing for compatible future use and development. The Blue Plan aims to achieve this goal by creating a series of resources and information that can help planners and applicants, make better coordinated and compatible decisions.

The CPO course is made possible by the Bridgeport Public Health Department through a $152,000 Pool Safely Grant Program (PSGP) awarded by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
“The City is thankful to be able to offer this opportunity,” said Health Director Maritza Bond. “We have made it a priority to enhance the skills of our maintenance and compliance staff to guarantee the safety of our residents and their families while they enjoy pool activities. By offering this training for free, we are saving individuals over $300, and preparing them with the skills they need to prevent hazardous situations.”
Funding from the PSGP will allow the City of Bridgeport to certify 200 Greater Bridgeport Region enforcement personnel. The training, conducted by Blue Wave, will ensure the safety of public pools and compliance with state and federal regulations, including enforcement of the Virginia Graeme Baker Act. Course topics include pool and spa chemistry and calculations, energy conservation, water sanitizing and testing, maintenance, troubleshooting and much more.

STRATFORD- Stratford Mayor Laura R. Hoydick formally presented her proposed operating budget for FY 2020 to the Town Council this evening, offering a plan that holds the line on taxes, continues efforts to streamline services and efficiencies, and sets policy priorities for the Town.
“Last year we were able to stop the harmful cycle of compounding tax increases by offering a modest tax decrease, and I am proud to present a budget this year that builds off of this, without any tax increases,” said Mayor Hoydick.
The $228.3 million budget spends 3.29% over the prior year, with a Grand List growth of 1.40%, holding the mill rate at 39.90.
The Mayor noted that significant challenges for the town remain depending on final state budget action by the Governor and General Assembly which will determine levels of town and education aid that will go to Stratford.
“The budget proposed by Governor Lamont takes some and gives some to Stratford,” said Mayor Hoydick. “The requirement that Stratford begins to pay for a progressively larger portion of the state’s unfunded costs of the teacher retirement system over the next three years is of concern.”
According to the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities (CCM) Lamont’s budget will cost Stratford $421,635 in FY 20, $870,716 in FY 21 and $1.3 million in FY 22.
The budget now goes to the Town Council for their review. Under the Town Charter, the Council has until May 12th to pass a budget
