Norwalk News: Fatal Accident – Witnesses Sought

#Norwalk CT– On July 21, 2023, at 9:58 p.m. Norwalk Combined Dispatch received reports of an accident involving a car and a moped at the intersection of Maple Street and Van Buren Avenue. Norwalk Police Officers responded to the scene and located two vehicles, a moped and an Infiniti SUV.

The operator of the moped was transported to Norwalk Hospital with significant injuries and was later pronounced deceased at Norwalk Hospital. The operator of the second vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Fairfield News: Grant To Help Remediate Contaminated Site

Sen. Tony Hwang (R-Fairfield) today applauded the announcement of a $3,000,000 state grant to remediate the vacant 4.9-acre, former Bullard Machine Tool Company site at 81 Black Rock Turnpike.

This project will enable a transit-oriented development/mixed-use development that will include 240 residential units (including 20% affordable at 80% area median income), ancillary retail, co-working, and public amenity space.

“Cleaning up this site and putting it to productive use is a win-win situation for Fairfield,” Sen. Hwang said. “This project is good for the environment, it will create jobs, and it will create new and affordable housing with an emphasis on transit-oriented development. This is a significant grant award, and we appreciate the governor’s attention to Fairfield.”

The funds come from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development’s Brownfield Remediation and Development Program.

Bridgeport News: Teen Shot

On July 20, 2023, at approximately 8:05 pm a ShotSpotter activation occurred within the 500 block of Trumbull Avenue (9 rounds fired – BPD CFS 23-58860).   

A short time later a 16-year-old Stratford teen presented at an area hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.  This is reported to be a non-life-threatening injury.  The victim was transported to the hospital via private vehicle.  The victim’s parent/guardian has been notified and responded to the hospital.

Norwalk News: 2 Arrested In Home Invasion

On the morning of July 12, 2023, two Norwalk residents were taken into custody following their involvement in several cases of burglary, robbery, and home invasion.

On May 22, 2023, a residence on Lexington Avenue was burglarized, cash was taken, and a television and other items were damaged. A report was filed with the Norwalk Police Department on the following day. On May 24, 2023, a home invasion occurred at the same address and was reported to investigators the next day. During this incident, two men entered the residence, and cash was taken at gunpoint, as well as a jacket. Detective Nyquist assumed the investigation of both incidents and worked quickly to develop leads and identify suspects. On July 8, 2023, a second home invasion occurred at the same address and was reported immediately after. During this incident, two suspects entered the home, one armed with a

handgun and cash were taken after the victim was struck in the head with a handgun.

Detective Ribisl was assigned to the July 8 incident.

Investigators Nyquist and Ribisl quickly identified that one of the suspects was involved in both home invasions. Their month-long intensive work on the separate cases resulted in search warrants and arrest warrants for the two identified suspects, Joseph de Jesus Tiburcio Nunez and Aneudy Martinez. The arrest and search warrants were executed during the early morning hours of July 12, 2023, by the Norwalk Police Department’s Detective Bureau and Tactical Response

Team, at the two respective residences of the suspects. This investigation remains open and active, and the investigators request that anyone with information contact them directly.

Gas Station Robbery Arrests

Norwalk Police Officers locate and arrest a robbery suspect within 30 minutes of receiving the 911 call for help.

On July 18, 2023, at approximately 8:24 p.m., Norwalk Police Department Combined Dispatch received a call advising that a black male had just entered a gas station on Connecticut Avenue displaying a knife, demanded cigarettes and a lighter, then left the store on foot. Norwalk Police Officers discovered that there were unlocked doors in a commercial building nearby, prompting a check within. Officers quickly discovered suspect Sean Hassan Jarrett, who was immediately taken into custody. Witnesses to the robbery confirmed that Jarrett was the individual seen in the

gas station. Jarrett was transported to Norwalk Police Department where he was charged and held on bond. No persons were injured during this incident.
